Man, I gotta tell you this story. I have a dedicated tune room. Also, in my house my wife and I enjoyed socializing and watching the telly in our den. It's real big. The speakers I have in there on both sides of the flat screen telly are Mirage standmount speakers with 6.5" mid/woofers and 1" dome tweets that I think are not made anymore. I bought them especially for this room and set up cause both she and I plus guests are generally sitting off axis. You see, those particular Mirage's have upward firing drivers with 360 degree dispersion. So, I get a wild hair and decide to listen to some CD's via my DVD player. You'd think I would have done this before, but I had not. What inspired me to do so is a review in the latest TAS of the German Physiks Bending Wave speakers that are also upward firing,
I listened to this . .
Get this. I will say that this is the man and his men at the best in their recorded history and I have a pretty good awareness of that history. Do yourself a favor and listen to My Funny Valentine and do not busy yourself elsewhere because what follows a track later* is nothing short of stunning! This is the best Miles Davis and band and a much better recording than Miles in Europe which was the first to feature Tony Williams. Oh, and the dispersion of those top firing drivers creates an atmosphere that is palpably you-are-there! I expect some Maggies might could pull this off, dunno. Maybe I can tell you one day.
