Kenny Barron Quintet- Live at Fat Tuesday's (enja). About three quarters away from the stage deep in the club . . turn it UP else you won't be in the club at all (things you gotta know). Jim Anderson AND David Baker are the sound men on this. From where they must intend you to be, YOU SHALL, listened LOUD. KB has only a few recordings outside of trio and backing singer dates. Well, here you go! It's a stone burner . .
Kenny Garrett Quintet- Sketches of MD/Live at The Iridium (Mack Avenue). With Pharoah Sanders who plays it in the normal registers of a tenor unlike he did with Coltrane. The opening track has that drone like, hypnotic groove thing that will pull you in. Long tunes on this. Best heard when your old lady has gone to bed and you don't have to get up early.
I've posted these before. They're worth posting again. I've just lsitened to them both and under optimum conditions
