The Good and the Bad of Joe Pass.
The good is very good, "Joe Pass at the Montreux Jazz Fest 75". Great renditions of "I'm Glad There was You" and "Willow Weep for Me" (is there any song with more great interpretations than Willow?).
But the bad, oh my God, so bad... Joe Pass  "A Sign of the Time" with Joe and a desperate Chet Baker playing bloated versions of songs made famous by Petula Clark, the Beatles, Sinatra, Dionne Warwick, and Chad and Jeremy! Just when you thought the waves of nausea brought on by the orchestra had passed, here comes the wave of siren song girls singing "Ooohhh Aahhh".  The really sad thing is that you can still hear bit of Joe's virtuosity and the purity of Chet's tone... so sad what jazz artist did in the 60's to try to draw an audience and the World Pacific label should be ashamed at misusing such talent.
On the other hand, find a copy of Joe at Montreux on Pablo. Fine performance recorded to Pablo's usual high standards.
