A great album to start the day!

Samples and review: The Wes Montgomery Trio - A Dynamic New Sound: Guitar/Organ/Drums

The Wes Montgomery Trio: Wes Montgomery (guitar); Melvin Rhyne (organ); Paul Parker (drums).

Down Beat (1960) - 4 Stars - Very Good - "..On the basis of Montgomery's work this would be a 5-star LP, but unfortunately the rest of the trio does not measure up to his standard, and the final effect is just short of that.."

Another great Montgomery disk.  I just found out there is a remaster with bonus track that doubles the length of the album.  I just added it to my must buy list.  In case you're interested you can see the bonus track version here: Bonus Track Version of Groove Yard.  The price is very reasonable also.

Samples and review: The Montgomery Brothers - Groove Yard

Personnel includes: Wes Montgomery (arch top electric guitar); Buddy Montgomery (piano); Monk Montgomery (Fender bass); Bobby Thomas (drums).

Recorded in January, 1961.

A great disk.  Please be aware there are two versions.  One has 6 tracks and the other (this one) has 9 tracks.

Samples and review: Maceo Parker - Roots Revisited

Reviews:
Entertainment Weekly (4/5/91) - "...a soul-jazz album that allows Parker to stretch out melodically."

Down Beat - 4 Stars - Very Good

Stereo Review (3/91) - Performance "Finger-snappin' good" / Recording "Excellent" - "...retains all the nasty ingredients that make us snap our fingers and twist our bodies, but it dishes up the funk with a generous sprinkling of individual jazz expression."
