I beg to differ... I think people don't realize how little power you need at decent listening levels.
Remember, 92dB/W/m means the speaker will reproduce 92dB with just a single watt from 1m away. I don't know about you, but 92dB is fairly loud, certainly louder than I normally listen to. And that's with just 1W.
My amp is a self-made SE 2A3, driven by a single ECC99 combination voltage gain/driver stage. The single gain stage isn't actually enough to derive the full 2.5W from the 2A3, so it probably has less than 2W with a standard 2V line source. In any case, I'm listening from about 3 metres with great sound. If I were listening to movie tracks, I'd probaby want more gain (and more power), but for music I'm quite happy.
