Ellegon,  I would love to see a picture of the back of your Maggies.  I own a pair of 1.6's and MMG's.  I've been thinking of modifying the MMG's into a nicer frame as an experiment.  I was wondering if your Maggies were just placed in a wooden frame around the original frame.

I really enjoyed looking at all these magnificent pictures. I have the MMG running with an Outlaw 2150RR and Outlaw LF1 sub with an Onkyo DX 7555 and Sony 999ES SACD player in my living room.

First movie I watched was Sleepy Hollow, and I'll never forget how real it sounded during this one scene where a horse drawn carriage went barraging down a gravel/stone road...it was very memorable.

I only listened to the Logans in that spot for about 10 days and then they were banished to storage until my listening room is finished; which at the current rate of progress will be sometime in 2018. I found them on Craigslist when I was out working 550 miles from home...wasn't looking for them but after 45 minutes of listening they found me. 

They are in absolute mint condition and have very limited time on the panels. The guy had them for a year before getting married and the wife didn't take too kindly to them in their small family room, so they were only allowed out for Christmas parties and a few other occasions. He said no more than a few weeks a year of use and they were kept in the original boxes until given the chance to play some music.

What these things do in the midrange is ridiculous (the good kind). They are utterly compelling. The listening space they were in is over 14,000 cu.ft. so their normal bass shyness was even more pronounced, but this works just fine for me as I planned on mating them to an 8-driver Infinite Baffle sub system in a 2200 cu.ft. room. 

This was until the Maggies came along...

Now there will be a Footloose-style competition to see which stays.

It's going to be a battle.

I would think it would sound even better if you:
a) put the inner panels vertical like the others, and
b) separated the bass panels, so you can "arc" all 3 panels (to make them the same distance away from your ears - ie. time coherence).

          The inner panels are Martin Logan Summits (woofers disconnected).  The large panels are Magneplanar Tympani IV bass panels (modified).  The bass panels "are time aligned" with the electrostatic elements.  Imaging, coherence, and sound-staging are superb.  I use Martin Logan Summits just for the electrostatic elements (no xover
between mids and highs) and this provides considerably better imaging than one gets with Magneplanar speakers.
This combination of speakers (both dipole) results in a very large sound-stage with depth, power, transient
response, ambience, low level detail, that one cannot get with the Magneplanars alone, including the top of the line. MG-20.  I Also extend the bass response to below 1 hz with the Eminent Technology TRW-17 Rotary Subwoofer.  The room is
completely treated with 36 ASC tube traps and other custom made acoustical devices that results in extremely well controlled bass and imaging that is awesome.   Above the screen (center channel) is a Martin Logan Logos electrostatic
speaker as well.  I also have (4) rear speakers and (4) side speakers that complete the array for surround sound (feels like one is actually in the hall where the recording was made.  I have been an audiophile for over 50 years and this hybrid
speaker system is extremely realistic and accurate in producing a believable sound experience.

Control room on separate concrete foundation for all equipment.  This gives one
easy access to all equipment and cables and provides complete isolation from
vibration.

These MMGs acquit themselves really well.  Ordered up some Acme fuse holders this morning and need to get some decent stands made up for the little guys.
And replace the socks which Fido hosed down, the miserable inbred rodent.

I am interested in such a set-up using my Martin Logan CLSZ2...assuming a limited supply of Tympany woofers...what would be a good (alternative) older Maggie to consider to try out for woofer duty only

Magneplanar Tympani IV and Tympani ID bass panels are two panel systems and would
be my choice.  These bass panels provide superb bass down to below 30 hz.  The
smaller Maggies do not have enough surface area and would not extend low enough.
In my situation the Martin Logan electrostatics were good down to 270 hz and the
Magneplanar Typmpani IV bass panels from that point down to below 30 hz, followed
by the Eminent Technology Rotary woofer taking the response to below 1 hz.    Finding
either of these in very good shape is not going to be easy.           Also to balance and
drive the Maggie bass panels I used a Audio Research D400MKII power amp with
400 watts per channel and controlled utilizing a Mark Levinson 380S preamp.  The
preamp has a volume control with .1 db increments and balancing the bass with the
Summits is precise.    The Summits are driven by a Arcam AVR600 Receiver which has a
high current output and handles the capacitive load of the electrostatic speakers and
provides state of the art sound.
