I just got back from seeing it as well. Very bloody good film.

Visuals, overall tone, another masterwork from Reznor, acting and overall direction... One of the best movie experiences thus far. Cannot recommend it enough.

It gives substance to a topic that appears to have very little.

Yeah- when I saw the previews, I thought... a movie about what?!? Really? But my bf dragged me and I am glad he did (I should have never doubted him)!

Visually astounding... the dialogue, brilliant. Surprisingly face paced. Lots of wit, though I noticed a lot of jokes fell to the floor in the theater I was in... which I think is completely appropriate (since that is the case with most socially awkward geeks, right?).

Did a great job of being understated, while making a big statement.

I used a line from the movie for my facebook status

Only two responses to this?
I saw it with my daughter on Sunday. It hooked me from the opening scene and the Trent Reznor score made sure I was paying attention. The best movie I've seen in years!
The fact that my daughter is one year younger than Mark Zuckerberg helped as she could explain/fill in quite a bit of detail. She was at Purdue University and was an early Facebook participant. She said she remembered when it was called The Facebook.

Haha, I agree. Maybe I should go see it again in theaters and come back to report again. I thought it was one of the best developed movies I have seen in quite some time. The soundtrack alone is enough to go see it again!

I didn't expect much but I found it pretty interesting.  The substance of the story more than anything made it compelling.  I thought Justin Timberlake would be a turn off but he played his part well.

MINOR SPOILER ALERT

I don't question Zuckerberg's motives or think that he was intentionally trying to screw anyone over, however everyone's position was justifiable and clear.  These things happen when there's a lot of money at stake.

My wife and i watched this as a rental yesterday and I agree with the previous posters that it was an interesting movie. It is a story about the person who invented Facebook and surrounding people that wanted to share in the credit.  My rating 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Yes, great film. Real accomplishment, given the subject matter. Best Picture, though? I don't think so. They're going to try and sweep the Oscars and they might succeed which is unfortunate; True Grit for instance isn't getting much award buzz and neither is Inception - I consider both films as good as or better. Still, that David Fincher is a hell of a director.

At th end of the movie both my kids and my wife universally said they are all very happy that they never subscribed to Facebook and never will.

A decent movie, but Oscar potential - not.

I agree with you that True Grit and Inception were better movies and for me at least, more interesting stories.  I know that The Social Network is getting a lot of buzz for the Oscars but it certainly does not hold a candle to The King's Speech.

The Social Network was a pretty decent film but I didn't see anything last year that hold a candle against The King's Speech.  Alas sometimes the Oscars come down to being nothing more than an acknowledgment of the most popular movie rather than a celebration of art.

You thought a movie you hadn't seen was boring based on a trailer?  I heard about the plot and I thought it would be boring.  However it turned out to be quite compelling and brilliantly executed.  Never looked at my watch once and was over all too soon.

I saw this one a week or two ago and loved it. I'd put it above Inception and below True Grit in my Oscar race. Loved the dialogue, acting, and pacing...very interesting account of how it all went down!

I have worked in Silicon Valley technology startups for the past 10 years.  This movie really nailed some key themes.

Ideas are cheap; execution is what's important.

Out of all the computer and technology movies I've seen, this one really gets it.  There is an authenticity which resonated with me throughout, really thought it was terrific.

Would also recommend Triumph of the Nerds, the PBS documentary.  This would be strictly a documentary however, not an Aaron Sorkin dramatic script punctuated by witty dialogue.

I actually think they made him out to be a real dick.  I think that was part of the premise.

Just saw the other nite, On Demand Comcast (nee, Xfinity).

It was good entertainment - worth the $5.99 for HD version  :thumb:

The actor that played Zuckerberg was very convincing.  All the characters were fleshed out pretty well...the only purely nefarious one seemed to be the Sean Parker guy (of Napster fame and played well by Justin Timberlake)

The rest of the characters were showed to have positive and negative traits...as do most of us in the 'real' world.

A good film...glad we watched it.

I didn't think Mark is made out to be a real dick.  He's just portrayed as someone without morals or empathy.   :icon_lol:

I got into discussion about certain specifics regarding Mark's time at Harvard, so I tried to look it up on wikipedia.  I was surprised to learn that the Dean of Harvard in the movie who kicked the Winklevoss twins is none other than Larry Summers, Obama's director of National Economic Council and Clinton's Treasury Secretary.

A conspiracy theory started ticking in my head.  Larry's connected to both Goldman Sachs via his work with the Treasury and is probably connected to Russian bankers via his relationship with Andrei Shleifer while he was at Harvard.  And, Facebook recently raised $500 million via Goldman and Russian investors.

Coincidence?

Oh, I saw the movie on my plane ride to Asia.  Still very entertaining even more so than Inception.

I enjoyed the movie.  I have it on Blu-Ray.  I'm not a facebook or social network user and have no desire to do that thing (many would claim my picture is more suited to be on the wall of the Post Office :green:) but found it really interesting.  I did work in the online industry for about 5 years and related to some of the things.  I found it interesting that except for the few scenes at the entrance to Harvard they had to more or less sneak in (from on top of a building across the street) that most of the campus shots were of Johns Hopkins.
