Analysis of BDA-1 and DAC chip approaches

Saw this over on head-fi.org.

The last post references an old review of the Transporter and the AKM DAC chip it uses.

If I read this all correctly, I should be able to hear a difference between the Bryston and the Transporter.  Interestingly, I actually have both hooked up to a BP-26 so I can A/B relatively painlessly.  Haven't done a double blind, but for the life of me, I can't hear the difference.

Regarding the BDA-1, have you listened with the upsampling disengaged?
I found the playback more "organic" and better paced, while the upsampling seemed to add some "air", I didn't like it because the sound seemed more difuse and lacking in weight...

So the reviewer likes his Muse better. Oh well  :dunno:

I dont agree with the congested analogy at all. I find my BDA to be capable of sustained separation with no lack of air around instruments. In fact thats what i like about it. It does this and still is able to keep prat. He doesnt mention what his other gear is or at least i dont see it.

Just inserting a dac into the signal chain and not considering other components is a method doomed to fail. With every new dac (especially) you need to play around with it and see what the potential is first before discarding the component and making blanket statements.

The muse could very well be better but i dont get that from this review.
