theoretically they will sound the same.

FLAC may have more supported devices, but may not play back (unsure if still true today) in iTunes....

neyloj2,

Are you saying that you are using itunes to stream to SB touch?
Didn't know that it was possible ... and you had to use SB server interface ...

I use the music stored in itunes to play through my SBT. I want to get the very best quality for playback that is possible and don't know enough about different files(mp3, flac, aiff) I understand hdtracks is hi def music so I wonder, should I use aiff or flac or something else. Newbie here, SBT is my first digital experience other than itunes playing on my pc.

There is a practical aspect.
As far as I know, iTunes don't support FLAC.
There are tricks to get it to work (Fluke).
SBT supports FLAC but I'm unsure if it can play AIFF directly or that it needs Squeezeserver on a PC to do the transcoding (using QuickTime) to a SBT supported format.

Simply download or convert a track to both formats and check if you can get the tagging and the playback to work.
