A word of welcome to all of the newer folks that have cropped up here lately, from me as well.
I'm a little slow, and I lurk a lot and some say I don't exist anymore since I never show up anywhere hardly, but nonetheless, welcome to one of the best circles out there.

All seriousness aside, hope to meet and greet somewhere along the line, if my boss will ever let me have a saturday off for a gtg.
There is a lot of great listening with the guys of St. Louis, and you get as good as you give.

GAS rules! Sturgas and Chris came over last night for a "tube rolling" symposium and man did I learn a lot. I'm going through serious preamp withdrawl! I've only been hanging out for a few weeks and I've already had to re-think my approach to audio. This is going to be an interesting year! Thanks, guys!

Only a week or two in the GAS circle and we've already got you thinking about spending money.

There are so many different systems to hear and different approaches in the GAS circle. If you ever want to drive way out west on I70 to hear some SET and Lowthers let me know. Glad you're with us, Vance.

P.S. Chris--get those Altecs up and running for your bass fix.

you may be right about that one Vance. Sometimes we all get a little nuts and we have to step back to realize just how good we have it.

My name is Brian Doane and I am new to GAS but a life long 2 channel junkie. It is great to see that there are other people who enjoy this hobby, I started to think music had been killed by MP3. I am really looking forward to being involved in GAS and sharing a really great hobby.

I just registered. I design and build tube equipment for myself. I signed
up in part because I am disassembling a big mono horn system, using a VOT
bottom cabinet and an Altec 1804 --their largest multicell -- horn. I've
been using an Altec 288B driver [just rebuilt by Great Plains]. Though it
would be wonderful to find a new home for the complete developed horn
system with another very crazy mono music fan, it is much more likely that
it will come apart and the big bass box will be available, cheap, locally. Early
plywood [better] cabinet, Jensen curved cell 15inch driver in it right now...
I'm not leaving music or St Louis, just using a different setup at the shop.

Hi Carter,

Welcome aboard. We talked years ago and if I remember right, I think you were using something like a 10Y or a VT52 to drive your mono rig. Too cool.

As for takers on the mono rig, maybe Willie. He runs a pair of 1804s and VOTT bass bins in stereo mode. He might be interested in trying something different. The only other horn guys are Bill (deadfish) and me. I've got 511s and 416s and some (gasp) Klipsch's. I'm completely out of room. In fact I've been thinking about selling my 511/802D horns. Gunna keep the 416s as I use them as woofers for my open baffles.

So are you entering the stereo world in the shop? You mentioned a different setup. Interested in my 511's? I'd be willing to trade for something cool or maybe some tubes.

I set up an RCA theatre horn with a TAD driver on a Petite
Onken/Altec 414A for the PA at the shop--still mono
