Not much of a drinker...what's behind door number two, Monty?

First coat of tung oil on the baffles and they are looking sweet!

Thanks so much.  The sound is already a known factor after months of prototyping and testing with these drivers BEFORE committing to the final, real baffles.  If anything, it might be a smidge better due to the stiffer baffles now.  Can't wait to get everything assembled and I have to steal the subs back from the studio.

Thanks!  I know Ric would not approve of the support leg, but these things are so stiff as is, it would have ruined the look I was going for to add any more to it.   8)

Nicely done. Well thought out, beautifully executed.

First I've seen of this thread, haven't read all, but gotta say, I love the look of  these.

And the rear wave from the midrange drivers...

You can brace to the top of the panel without the brace being directly behind the midrange panels.  Also, the rear wave of the midranges might want to be somewhat supressed in certain situations.  I ran the VMPS neo panel on an open baffle and it was 7 feet from the rear wall and yet it was still too bright until I put two thicknesses of felt on the backside of the neo driver (spaced a little off the driver so it could breath).  Brian Cheney of VMPS sells a speaker with 6 neo mids on an open baffle (V60) and he supplies foam to put in the back V cavity to tune the sound.....or you can choose to leave the foam out.

The Glory of open baffle speakers is they have no box sound....however, you do not always want sound coming off the back of the speaker (does not always work).

That's funny you should mention the rear wave cause I don't really want one in the mids.  I do not like boxes and a baffle is just plain sexy looking and better than a huge monkey coffin sitting in the room, BUT I don't really like a diffuse dipole sound either.  I will be adding a rectangle of Bonded Logic material directly behind the Neo10 panels in the cutout area of the baffle.  This will give me an approximation of a cardioid response through the mids and really leave only the midbass as a figure 8 pattern.  I prefer the tighter, more precise sound of the rear wave absorbed.  Just a personal preference and for classical music sometimes I DO like dipole, but in general not so much.

Correct!  I will have the back wave partially absorbed as mentioned above.  I also have some mondo traps and other DIY absorber panels along the front wall and in the front corners behind a curtain.  I've been doing this since I bought my Maggie MMGs years ago.

Fair enough. I'm preferring to allow the rear wave to create a full dipole pattern and adjust absorption further behind the speaker if necessary. I'll be interested to hear how you go :thumb:

Congratulation to your wonderful designed and crafted project! It simply looks perfect!

B.t.w do you experience any (eventually) disadvantage from placing the tweeter parallel to the mids instead a "typical" m/t/m - configuration? Do you think this might matter at all or is this issue neglectable?

Please tolerate another question: Is one AE15 fully sufficient in view of the two Neo10 or would an "ideal" project see two IBs and one Neo 10?

Since I  am still fairly new to the OB scene itself, although more and more attracted to open baffles, I am very curious and eager to learn. I like your design very much and could well imagine to decide for a setup like this as well. Thanks for your tolerance.

Would you be ready to tell us a bit more about your dsp-configuration? I understand this is crossed / controlled solely digitally? Or did you cross passively between the Raal and Neo 10? Is much correction necessary or almost none? Thanks a lot, Greg.

Best regards,
Till
