When you compare the files start with the lowest resolution: D (MP3 320 kbps) and move on up through example C and B ending with A.Be careful: If you start with A, and move down through B and C ending with D, your mind will remember the ''Blueprint'' of the higher resolution file, making it difficult to hear the difference even when finally listening to the MP3 file. Don't be frustrated if you can't hear a difference at first. Hearing is as individual as taste but hearing is also something which can be acquired, like the taste of good wine.
Linn is again doing their 24 days of Christmas (free hirez track each day) and giving us a teaser here:http://www.linn.co.uk/christmasThe teaser is 24/88k, so not exactly the subject of this thread, but close enough. Free hirez.
Krikor, I missed out on Day 4 and Day 6. If you have them, can you upload them to some file sharing service? I would be very grateful!
Link doesn't work
and these are free too. And very interesting.http://www.soundliaison.com/
I missed the first offerings which have expired but Linn's 24 Bits of Xmas still has an active download:http://www.linn.co.uk/christmas
Keep an eye out on Christmas Eve or Day... in the past they have offered a download of all the tracks for those that might have missed them.
Test your DAC! Free Format ComparisonWhich format is best for your DAC?Every DAC has it's own character, some sounds better using PCM files and some sounds better using DSD files...... Some people find the convenience of FLAC files more important. Here on this page is a list containing 2 minutes of a song in 11 different formats. The song is called 'A Fool For You' and is performed by Carmen Gomes Inc.It’s taken from the album 'Carmen Sings The Blues'.http://soundliaison.com/studio-showcase-series/276-carmen-gomes-sings-the-bluesAll the different formats have the same source file, DXD 352kHz (Studio Master). We used the AUL ConverteR 48x44 for the conversion to DSD and Wavelab for the conversion to the other PCM formats and FLAC.When you compare different sample rates always start with the lowest resolution.During listening don't focus too much, hearing is as individual as taste but hearing is also something which can be acquired, like the taste of good wine. You can choose from the following formats:1. DXD 352kHz2. PCM 192kHz3. PCM 176kHz4. PCM 96kHz5. PCM 44kHz6. DSD 2567. DSD 1288. DSD 649 . FLAC 352kHz10. FLAC 192kHz11. FLAC 96kHz
