So , just to clarify, there will be NO empty cabinets ever offered of these models?

I am working on this. My guess is that there will be a good selection of options from several sources.

If you follow the posts from Outofthewoods then you'll see that he does some REALLY nice ones.

I will get this stuff up on the web site though. I need the parts here for pictures though.
..and sizes of components..ie, I really want to do an X-LS Encore and stick them in some JBL L20T cabinets--No tools here in apartment land so I wanna see if they will fit existing cutouts in the baffle...even though the cubic footage is off a bit .41 as opposed to suggested .50 I'd love to give them a whirl and get my youngest son involved in the retrofitting etc... :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Yeah, but I am not going to sell them until they are here. If you have ever done business with me before then you know that I charge your card when it ships. Or if you order on line, I try to ship that day or the next if possible. I don't take peoples money and then have them wait for product.

I didn't mean to suggest taking preorders.  Sorry if that's what it sounded like.

Did it get chilly in here or is it just me?

First of all THANKS to all of you for all the support and good wishes.
Now, let me apologize for what follows. It is long, kind of personal and perhaps boring. But I guess that I need to "vent" a little. Not in FULL, just a little.
These are, no doubt about it, very difficult times but with the help of good friends like Danny, we hope that we can get back part of the investment we made on these electronic parts.
What hurts the most is that now there are 80 Colombians without a job.
This is the end of a dream. The end of a learning process for me and my 2 brothers. We've never made cabinets before. We made big mistakes during the process, of course. A lot of B stocks, for sure!!!.
In some threads there are people making jokes about us and about our quality. It doesn't surprise me because for some reason we, human beings, enjoy others failures and mistakes. On the other hand they are not 100% wrong. As I stated above, we made a lot of mistakes while learning the secrets of the loudspeaker-making business. (and yes, we even use irons to try to get that F$#@ing veneer to stop cracking  :duh:).
Some beautiful cabinets were shipped at the same time. And training those 80 people was really a difficult process, one that gave us pride but one that just when it started to get good results ended abruptly.
Our idea was to learn, we were ready to let some years to pass before we could become a "world-class" cabinet factory and then, and only then, make money. We didn't have the time to fulfill that dream but this is life and this is business. No compassion and sometimes no second chances.
Our family have been in the industry (steel and iron industrial parts) since 1934, we still have our parent company up and running (although the financial impact has been hard to digest and we are far from recovered) so we are "alive and kicking". Working hard, watching our children to grow, enjoying living in a beautiful country that is recovering on a daily basis from years of war and, personally, listening to music every day on my LS9's, made here in Colombia of course!!.(Thanks for your magic Danny).
http://cgim.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/vs.pl?vopin&1276121208&viewitem&o7
If only you knew how much those LS9's ended up costing me!!! (Good humor is also the key during these periods, let me tell you and making fun of yourself is always an excellent exercise).
I'm using this experience to teach my two daughters (16 and 14) almost everything about life. Specially one learning:
They were there when my friends here in Colombia laughed at me and about my idea of exporting cabinets to the USA and they were there when we started sending container-loads of loudspeakers. So they know by now that the only limitations that we have in life are the ones that we impose to ourselves. What a lesson!!.
Thanks for reading and again sorry for the long post.
Santiago

Sorry for your loss Santiago. :(

Many of us can sympathize with you and yours on a personal level in this mess.

If there's anything I can do to help you know how to reach me.

Keep on kicking!

I spoke with Christina of Dickensheet auctions. There may be some av123 cabinets available that would work with Danny's kits. She said she spoke with av123's attorney and he advised her that the proceeds will go toward secured creditors, building lease, closing business expenses, and also to customers that haven't received product.

I'm sure she would be glad to answer any questions you have about the auction ending Monday.

Santiago & Danny,

I'm confused as to why you (Danny) can't sell the cabinets that Santiago makes.  Basically you take over that line of speakers and sell them as kits (Cabinets and components).

Why can't that work?  This would still enable Santiago to live the dream and for GR to have a complete speaker kit available.  Oh and make some money.   :thumb:

Just a thought...

Well, actually the answer is quite easy: Our factory closed some months ago, we've sold part of the machinery, the warehouse is used for another purposes, but the main reason is that we no longer had the 80 workers under our payroll. We had to let them go, all of them. Sadly.
But we do have some cabinets in different stages of finish available. Let us think about the best way to move those cabinets from Colombia to Danny.
Thanks a lot for thinking about it!!. :thumb:
Let's hope we can find a way.

Handcrafted with Pride and Passion in Cali, Colombia

That line always caught my eye when receiving and moving those boxes.

It's tragic how things have turned out but if it's any consolation, I would just like to extend my own praise for all of you down in Cali for your hard work.

As an owner of five of the x-series speaker models I can attest that what you have accomplished was extraordinary and beautiful.  Two of the models I bought were b-stock and yet I had a difficult time finding any flaws in them.  Every one of my friends and family who have come over and seen your work first hand have praised them and were stunned by those incredible veneers.

I have a pair of c-stock x-cs'.  Yes, the veneer is in bad shape.  I never once thought about blaming your work.  Perhaps it's my ignorance but it just appears as slight weather damage.  Because it's the darker veneer it's not even really that noticeable.  Nevertheless the cabinets are still solidly built.  And the best part is they sound fantastic!  I still love them flaws and all.

I recently picked up a pair of unopened x-sls' as a house-warming gift for my brother.  He told me as he slid that sock off the first speaker he was mezmerized by that cherry rosa veneer.  He really loves them and he's not even an audiophile.

I hope you will once again find success in whatever you do.

Thanks a lot Rob!! :D
You can't imagine what your words mean to us. It was a roller-coaster ride but I keep the good memories and the images of beautiful speakers being shipped will remain with me forever.
Thanks again!!

Santiago,

Hugh here.

Glad to see you here and still keep your spirits.

Just keep pushing ahead then God will take care of everything else.

He who committed bad deeds will have to answer to the guy upstairs sooner or later.

Hang in there Santiago.

Santiago,
Thanks for your hard work.  I'm just one of many, who was able to benefit from the work you did in Cali.  This is the unveiling of my beautiful B-Stock Pali MFW.

The "Handcrafted with Pride and Passion in Cali, Colombia" is cut off in this picture, but you can almost see it on the box.

It was only B-stock, because the Pali veneer wasn't cooperating.  It's still beautiful though, and has been powered on for 2 years straight now, without a hitch, playing loads of deep, rolling, wonderful bass.

I even bought a pair of LS6 cabinets in Palisander (even though that veneer cracks a little too), because I liked the sub so much. (not sure if it's from you or China though.)

It is sad to hear about the personal strife the issues with AV123 have caused you.  Wish there was more I could do to help.

Santiago,  thank you for sharing your experience and feelings with us, and God bless you and your family for your work, perseverance and mostly for your great attitude!  I laugh at myself daily, so I know what therapy that is.  If you ever consider building cabinets again, I hope you can work out a deal with Danny and then others.  One of my electronic projector ODM's is part of a Taiwan headquarterd company that is the largest supplier of cabinets to the middle to high end speaker brands.  I've observed one of their plants and it does take a lot of equipment and personnel to make good, beautiful cabinets in high volume.  Best wishes to you going forward!

What can we expect to pay for a flat pack/unfinished enclosure? Can you give us an idea on shipping charges as well? Thanks

As soon as I have the plans I'll have a better idea of what's involved in each build. I'll post pricing when I have all of the info.

A flatpack is all the pieces cut to size and stacked for shipment- they just need to be assembled(glued, whatever) and I think they come without veneer but I'm not sure....

I can provide veneered flat packs as well! :thumb:

Absolutely!

Mark and Lynn told me a lot about the Cali operation. The progress UniAudio made given the circumstances was actually quite remarkable. To take that many people (almost all of which were not skilled woodworkers) and train them to manufacture furniture grade enclosures is an IMMENSE task! I've been in the woodworking trade for many years now and have worked in many different shops. It's a rare thing to find a person who truly "gets it" and can produce consistently exceptional work. For every (10) try outs (1) get's the part.
