Well, I had been listening to my newly breaking in LS9s over the weekend, and they kept hinting at greatness, but not really achieving it. Detail was missing, but I attributed it to the room from hell in which they reside. The wife was out of town, so the furniture was pulled back, extra rugs brought in, extra raw fiberglass 703 panel placed around- the place looks like a single teenager lives here....... it all helped but it still wasn't what i had hoped. Oh, the bass exceeded my Neo2X and sub set up in the other room, but where was the extra mid richness and detail that I had heard at Danny's house when the LS9 were just being designed? I was ready to give Danny or Dave a call and ask for help with the room...
Then I remembered that the outlets on the fireplace wall had not been changed out with the cryoed ones.
Folks, I gotta tell you, even if it sounds odd, that a $10 outlet makes as much difference as any other upgrade in my system- more than interconnects, more than power cables, perhaps more than going from a cheap solid state Sanyo pre to the Dodd battery. It is just pretty damn bizarre and I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it for myself. Extra detail in spades.
All issues aren't solved as this really does reside in the room from hell, but when I call the gurus (and I still need advice on the room) I won't have a note of panic in my voice.
