iTunes Library tune-up apps?
« on: 29 Jul 2010, 07:49 pm »
I've been grinding away for hours with XLD transcoding my old slimserver music library of flac and wav files into a (hopefully, tbd) unified iTunes library of AIF files.

As part of this effort, I've discovered a mish-mash of missing tag info, album artwork and duplicate files.   An Apple tech consultant I leaned on for getting me on the right path suggested after the transcoding is complete, to run everything through this Song Sergeant program.  I did a quick search here and found no mention of it.  When we looked at it yesterday, it was a $20 download from Lairware.  I just noticed it appears to be a free download at the apple website.

Has anyone used it before?  Or any equivalents to recommend?

Interesting Kenreau. No, I have never used it. But you paid for shareware, as you should. The free download is only a trial, which has limited functionality. From the site:

Try it today by downloading Song Sergeant on the Download page. Free and unregistered, Song Sergeant will identify problems in your music library and allow you to examine every issue discovered.

Register Song Sergeant for $20 (US Dollars) on the Purchase page. After registering you will receive a personalized unlocking key code via e-mail which enables Song Sergeant to fix the problems it finds. Registered users receive free upgrades to any future 1.x versions.

Good catch low.pfile.  I actually did not buy it at the time because my mac consultant's $$$ meter was running and I've got 1,500 albums to get transcoded first.  I do plan to use something like this program once I get to the finish line though.  Just looking around to see if there is a preferred program.  Hell, they would probably want more than the $20 once they see my mess of files  :o
