Try this one:

http://www.screened.com/news/this-is-probably-going-to-get-taken-down-the-comic-con-thor-trailer/557/

Looks like they've taken a lot of "liberties" from the original comic book...will definitely be interested to see how it turns out, as Thor was one of my favorites growing up...

If you are asking if that is a Stark creation, then the answer is no.  According to the comics, this is the Destroyer - a creation of Odin to be used upon Ragnarok to battle the likes of Surtur.  The creature is animated by the soul of another and fights until either destroyed or de-activated by Odin.  Thor fought it/him to a standstill, and IIRC Mjolnir was almost destroyed in the battle.  One of the true Lee/Kirby epics.

And yeah, I've been a comic geek since the 60s.

No.....  :nono:  That's a line from the trailer by one of our favorite SHIELD agents.   Watch the trailer if you get a chance.
As to the liberties:  like X-men cheekily referring to yellow spandex, what works in comics may not on screen.  It looks like what they have done is made the story more fleshed out and identifiable.  Thor is cast out of Asguard for arrogance and stripped of his power.  Like hercules, he must do right.  Looks like he will save humanity from the destroyer, and save Odin from Loki.

There doesn't look to be any reference to Dr. Donald Blake...

I was wondering why they took that route, although doing it this way, aligns more with mythological roots than comics.

Yeah...in the comic, Odin did it that way in order to teach Thor some humility (to have to live life as a physically handicapped human) as part of his exile.  Will be interesting to see how they handle that...

More and more I get the feeling the first Iron Man is about as good as it will get from Marvel. That trailer had to be the most boring superhero trailer I've seen. Thor himself has about zero charisma or screen presence. I'm hoping Loki is not the main baddie because he seems pretty run of the mill generic. And let's be honest whenever Anthony Hopkins is pulling an extended cameo/easy payday it usually means a less than stellar movie. Agent Colson was great in small bits from the Iron Man movies, but not strong enough to carry more than a couple scenes.

They needed a real star to carry this one. Branagh would have been perfect if he were 20 years younger.

I'm guessing that the trailer was not finished, which is why it is being removed from all of these preview web sites...

(and btw - I thought Spiderman 1 and 2 were better than Iron Man...!)

That's true about Spider-Man. I guess I don't consider those part of the new Marvel movie factory, and more Sam Raimi's babies.

The one thing I have always cautioned against is getting too psyched (or disappointed)  in an unfinished product.  MANY things can change, everything from editing to re-shoots.  Movies have changed at the last minute after test screenings.  Remember the commercial for IM2 that had Pepper throwing the helmet?  "You complete me?"  that will likely re-appear only in the dvd extras. I hated the green goblin in spider man 1.  Also, the effects weren't quite there.  It was a good story overall.  I like Spiderman 2 much  more.  I hated spiderman 3 completely.

Personally, I believe Marvel and DC learned some good, and painful lessons.  Go big, or go home.  That is, do NOT treat comic characters as two-dimensional pulp characters in a jokey way.  And do not get convoluted about the story.  In terms of effects, story and acting synergy making the most entertaining movie... I cast my vote for highest quality comic movies (even for people who don't like comics)
Beyond reproach IMO:  No order:  X-men 2, Spider man 2, Iron man, Iron man 2 and the dark knight.  All of those (IMO)  are firing on all cylinders and really hold up without any slow or cringe worthy moments.   I enjoy most of them even if they are on the weak side (blade, ghost rider)  Tried to like fantastic 4 1-2 but they were too cheesy and half hearted.  Superman 1,2 and returns are all entertaining, but riddled with annoying elements.  Spiderman 1  didn't sell me on the effects, or the villain. Spiderman 3 and Ang Lee's hulk were too convoluted for me to enjoy.  The latest Ed Norton Hulk annoyed me on the basis that they didn't stay true to the abominations appearance, and the hulk had to use too much "environment"  and not direct hitting to fight.

My top comic-based movies are:

Batman Begins
Spiderman 2
Spiderman 1 (I didn't care that the effects weren't perfect...it was the original comic book come to life)
The Watchmen (I never read the comic, but I loved the movie)
Superman 1
Iron Man 1
X-Men 2

The worst:
Ghost Rider
Daredevil
Fantastic Four 1
The Hulk (Ang Lee version)
Spiderman 3

Everything else was in the middle for me...enjoyable, but nothing all that memorable...

Batman begins was top notch... I should have included that.  Daredevil, elektra, superman 3 and 4  were abysmal and unwatchable.  I can't re-watch watchmen, but thought the godlike Dr Manhattan character was very cool.
