I dont know about the best beer made but a couple of dark craft beers from Dogfish are very tasty. The RaisonDetre is 8% but very smooth.

The Palo Santo is a Very Big dark beer at 12% it has a little bite but still a treat.

Well Dogfish is Delaware.
For MI beers look for Bells.  They have a great selection and the Two Hearted Ale is a fantastic IPA

You will also want to look up Dark Horse Brewery.  Their Crooked Tree is wonderful.

Another vote for Bell's.  If you like darker beers, give their porter a try.

Black Butte Porter is pretty nice. Not as substantial/bold as the German, Austrian darks, in a similar category as St. Pauli Girl dark.   http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/brews/year-round-brews/black-butte-porter/default.aspx

If you can find truly imported Lowenbrau dark, that's a winner. Beck's dark is ok, just not quite the flavor and body of the Lowenbrau. Of course porters & darks should be consumed at only slightly below room temp for true appreciation of their flavors. (note: this may inhibit one's ability to consume a six pack)

Weihenstephaner Korbinian is worth a try.

So is Celebrator.

There are a lot of good ones out there, especially if you're interested in stouts like Peche Mortel.

If there's a particular style you're looking for that would probably narrow down the search a bit.

This is beer we're talking about.  Why would you want to "narrow down the search"?

But seriously, Bells make wonderful beer.  My favorite is their Pale Ale, but you want something darker.  As noted above, the Porter is great and the Two-Hearted Ale is pretty delicious.  Also try the Third-Coast Ale and the Kalamazoo Stout.

If you want me to spout off my favorite beers I will.  Both those MI brands are fantastic.

If you want a Porter that will kick your ass in both the flavor and booze departments try the Belgian style Tois Pistoles form across the border to the north.  For a more creamy porder my favorte for a long time has been Anchor Porter.

Do people really drink 6 packs of these beers?  My days of doing that are long gone (way too many calories for me and they upset my stomach).

These look like good recommendations, though.

Michigan has just under 60 breweries. Perhaps some weekend trips are in order to check some of them out.
