Yep, love that!  It's one thing to be in a big spooky place, it's quite another to be in a place that you can never, ever "get your bearings" in.  It's part of what makes the Shining so unnerving.  He shifted around the props (chairs, tables, etc) for a similar effect.

My favorite is when they show O'Halloran opens the freezer door, and the door opening from the opposite way when cut to inside the freezer. I would never ever put that together, but now that I see it It's like 'duh'.
