I purchased an ECC82 to try out with my new EE DAC.  Will be my first bit of tube gear and hoping I like the sound.

I tried to extract from all the posts the tubes folks claimed to work for them:

1950 Raytheon blackplate 5814WA
Amperex 7316 PQ
CV4003
Philips pinched waist D getter E80CC (82?)
Siemens 5814A long plate
Siemens silver plate
5751 Sylvania gold label black plate triple mica getter

I'm using a Mullard right now with a Mazda as close second

You should NOT use the 5751 as this is a 12AX7 variant not a 12au7 variant

I'm curious if Alex can approve use of the E80CC, known to be much more linear than the 12AU7, which runs 2x filament current at 600mA.

5814 is a good choice too which runs only 50mA more current.

One of many threads.

Alex says that besides a 12au7 tube, that a 12AT7 tube can also be used in the DAC. The 12AT7 has a little more gain.

Yes, an E80CC can also be used in the DAC for sure. Alex approved.

Awesome news on the 12at7's!  I have some primo nos tubes to try, such as the Genelex A2900, the Brimar yellow T 6060 and a Valvo pinched waist blue label 12at7 (this may be my favorite tube of all Ive tried)!

I an breaking in a NOS Phillips gold pin E80CC - very pleased so far.  Improved air, better imaging, more detail.  I have been looking for "more cow bell", and I think I finally found it!    :thumb:

Cool, I've got some Telefunken 12at7s to try once my damn media server is repaired.  Apparently the problem isn't my motherboard...

I know AudioClyde wasn't so hot on his E80CC roll. I haven't pulled mine out of my amp since rolling them (SET 6V6).

My main server's SSD just bit the dust out of blue btw - what a pain.

I know! Luckily I have a LOT of backups. All restored, drive (G. skill Falcon SSD which lasted 1.5 years behind a UPS) RMA'd, and in the mail. My "Hifi" client (I use J. River mc15) sits behind a Brickwall suge protector and EP15 regenerator.

The E80CC I am listening to may not be for everyone. It is similar to the Siemens I own and way different than the 1950s Mullard I had in just prior.  While the Mullard is fantastic on vocals, it lacks the air, detail and top end of the Philips E80CC.  For me, there is not a clear winner - they all sound great, and amazingly different.

Speaking of tubes on the EE Minimax, who is running with the tube guard in place and who removed it?

There is a possibility I may be willing to let mine go in the near future depending on how an experiment works out for me.  I may decide to keep it, but I'll let you know/give you first crack at it if not.

Yes.  The Alex that Bill refers to is the DAC designer.  I have personally used a 12at7 in my DAC with no issues...  beyond not liking the sound.

You did not lilke it with the 12at7? You prefer the SS or the 12au7? Which 12au7?
