Thyratron, you say?

Never heard of them before. So imagine my surprise at finding a pack of them (2d21) in my workshop earlier today -

After some puzzling - why on earth would I want the tube equivalent of an SCR? - I finally found out why I have them: you can use them to make a voltage-controlled oscillator for music synthesis:

Anyone else here ever wanted to make a modular music synthesizer? Imagine a rack of tube modules... You can buy this cool stuff too - check out http://www.metasonix.com - lots of audio samples there, some of it's pretty wild :)

25kV! This is a thyratron for generating megawatt radar pulses. Something for the heavy dudes. :singing:
