What'd life be without homegrown tomatoes
Only two things that money can't buy
That's true love & homegrown tomatoes- Guy Clark
Every year I put in a tomato patch and this year, because of an unusually long spring, my plants are looking pretty good. Tucson, AZ has a short fruit setting season, the trick is to get the plants big and flowering before the 100 degree heat kills the pollen. I plant seeds in peat pots the first week in January, transplant into 16oz. drink cups around Feb 1st, and put the little guys in the ground Feb 27th.
The tomato harvest starts June 1st and goes until the plants burn out from the heat.

This year I'm growing Supersweet 100, Early Girl, Celebrity, Roma, Nichols Heirloom, and Prescott Heirloom, these varieties do well in the heat and mature quickly. I start with 50 plants, plant 19 and give the rest away to my friends, then it is a race to see who harvests the first red tomato.
The best potting soil I have found is
FoxFarm Ocean Forest Soil. The little seedlings blast off after being transplanted into the drink cups and are very vigorous and healthy when they are put into the garden.

How is everyone's garden growing?
