New toy
« on: 18 Jun 2010, 07:53 pm »
Sorry to bore everyone with a subject not related to sound.  But a truck pulled up today with our newest toy - an Altendorf Elmo 4 saw. I'm so used to seeing people post pictures of their new toys, I thought I'd share.

I had been looking at Altendorf and Martin saws with envy for years.  This particular model is computer controlled and accurate to .002" over a 10 foot cut.  But they are probably around $50,000 new. So I have been watching auctions for about 2 years waiting for a saw like this to come up at the right price.  Fortunately, I was able to pick this one up for a song.

When it arrived today, we had to find somewhere to put it.  So even though our new shop space is not quite ready, we dropped the saw right where it will be used when we make our move. We can't wait to power it up and make some saw dust.

Awesome!  Good Luck to you with it...just remember with CNC equipment...if the green light isn't on you're not making money.   :thumb:

Jim,

Being smart, patient, and persistent is half the fun and makes the toys even more precious when it is realized (especially with capital equipment purchases).  Good job, keep up the good work.

No, no, no!  You do not want straight cuts on your SoundScapes!!

The cabinets are all curvy and sexy looking.

Its back to the hand held hacksaw to cut out those guys I think.  :)

Best regards,

Boring?  Hardly.  I stared at the picture of that beauty for about 10 minutes.  Congratulations on the new acquisition.

Wow - now that's a saw!  Reminds me of when Crocodile Dundee pulls out his knife and says "No, this is a knife." :D Too cool - congrats, Jim!

Congrats Jim! That is one impressive piece of equipment. Not sure I would classify it as a toy - it is hard to write off toys!

After watching a demonstration video of the Altendorf F45 I was even more impressed.  Of course, Jim has the F45 Elmo which appears even more versatile.

With the resulting improved productivity perhaps wait times for Salk speakers may be reduced in the future for impatient buyers like me.

Enjoy your new toy, Jim.
