According to
http://www.sonicflare.com/archives/metal-sound-design-hearts-cnc-machines.php
they cost approximately $ 50 000 (in 2006).
In comparison, the JBL DD66000 Everest costs approximately $60 000.

I have unfortunately not heard them. I guess they are sold in very few shops outside Korea. There is no dealer list on the company's homepage.
This link contains a stereo system picture of them (see the bottom page):
http://www.metalsounddesign.com/bbs/view.php?id=tomeng&page=1&category=&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&keyword=&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=1

And in fact, it looks like the amplifier on that picture is a Bryston :)

The JBL DD66000 speakers' sound is fantastic by the way (I have listened to them several times). Each speaker has two 15" woofers.
It would have been great to hear them using Bryston's electronics.

And ultimately, a pair of K2-S9900 speakers. It is too bad that they do not look as good as the Project Array 1400's :(

Have you heard the K2-S9900 ?
If yes: How do they compare to the DD66000's ? (if you have heard them too)

Can you tell us how your 1400's sound is using Bryston amplification compared to other amplification ?

Unfortunately, the Everest drivers will be made in Mexico, and assembly will be done in Mexico.

The cabinets will be made in Europe.

Interesting to find out what the key component in a Synthesis system is:

Damn JBL for going to Mexico and China!

My top 3 list of speakers (*)  I would like to hear Bryston amplifiers driving:
1. JBL DD66000 Everest.
2. JBL K2 S9900.
3. B&W 800 Diamond.

(*) I will buy speakers in that class some day (some years from now, though), and the 3 mentioned speakers are my favourites (in that order) just now.

It would have been interesting doing the following ABX-tests on amplifiers driving them (or something similar to the below setup):
Test 1: (objective)
Find some non-Bryston amplifiers (with a price tag rather close to) to ABX-compare with a certain Bryston amplifier (4B SST2, say).
If the audible result was 'a draw' (i.e. no audible difference), then it definitively would be reasonable to take in consideration that Bryston gives 20 years warranty.

Test 2: (more subjective)
If audible differences where found, I would go on finding out which one sounds best in my ears by ABX- and AB-testing.

Test 3:
If the audible differences were huge I would do further ABX-testing.
Say the 4B SST2 was the winner. I would then ABX-compare it with more expensive Bryston amplifiers (and other brands, too).

[I do not think a seller of Mark Levinson or Burmester (and several other bling-fi brands) would let me ABX-compare that brands to Bryston.]

I am not sure what they are - but I would like a pair of them :D

I have listened to all of Avantgarde acoustic's speakers (except the G2-versions), including the pictured Duo's (generation 1, G1).
I prefer JBL to Avantgarde acoustic.
The JBL Array 1400's are better than the Duo's in my ears, I have not AB- (or ABX-) tested the Duo's to the 1400's, though.

You don't care that JBL is now made in China and Mexico?

You don't care that JBL is now made in China and Mexico?

Do you have any reliable sources on that JBL is now made in China and Mexico ?
(and which of JBL's models it concerns)

Answer to your question:
I don't care if the quality is the same and if there are no other negative issues.

Damn JBL for going to Mexico and China!

Vegasdave,

E-mail JBL customer services and voice your opinions. :!:

Bring these points up when you see them at trade shows - put their representatives on the spot and ask them difficult questions and do not let them get away with anything. :!:

An example ensues…

A large majority of Canadians do not bother to vote in our provincial or federal elections and the politicians know this - remember, it is only a minority and not the majority that elect governments. I firmly believe that voting must be mandatory for all citizens - if you truly enjoy the benefits of a democracy, mandatory voting is a very small price to pay and this would drive the arrogance and “do as they please mindset” from all of our elected officials.

Anyway, I digress…

What I wanted to say was that I contacted my MMP last year with respect to the then proposed HST (more taxes)  and now will be implemented in Ontario in a couple of weeks time. I told her that our household supported her during the last election but will vote against her during next year’s provincial election and I also reminded her of how small her margin of victory was.

Will it change anything? Not this time, but you must start somewhere.

I was informed that my satellite subscription was going to increase by over 20% with no improvement in services and when I inquired about this, the customer service representative suggested basically that there was nothing I could do about it. Yes there was - I cancelled my service and I was with them for 10 years. I have not even missed them - turns, smiles at stereo system. Most of these companies need us more than we need them. For example, do we really need cable? How reasonable would cable prices become if we all terminated our cable/satellite services?

I contact corporations when I see “imported for [company name]” instead of “made in [country]” on their products. I have found out that a lot of food products are now imported from China and only marked “imported for [company name].” I inform them of my concerns about the long, documented history of toxic and poisonous products imported from China. I tell them that I will leave their product on the store shelf. Do you want to eat anything produced by China when it is one of the world‘s most polluted countries?

We have all become to comfortable and extremely complacent and it is high time to change this…

So vegasdave - start right now, put your foot down and write JBL.

Be well...
