Want to use Verizon or TMobile as your cellular carrier? Not with an Iphone.

Probably don't remember but this was originally the case with Blackberry also.  Apple was smart and sold the exclusive rights to the IPhone to ATT for a period of time.  The other carriers will get future generations of IPhones eventually.

Microsoft is "REALLY" trying to compete with "Apple" products, needless to say you can't compare apples to oranges.  I was a prior "PC" user but ever since switching over to my Macbook Pro I never went back~  Also, you can't compare a price of a toyota with the price of a BMW but some people may have their different opinions.  All that I personally know is that I "TRY" to purchase the best that my money can get and if I can't afford it then I will save until I can  :thumb: but that's me~

The Lenovo tablet has been around for years. And there are plenty of others. But when Apple releases something there are millions of lemmings that buy whatever it is. I tip my hat to Apple's marketing group., They are at least as good as Bose.

See this is where PC people tend to lose the argument. Do you know how much MS spends on advertising? Give me a break! Comparing Apple to bose is ridiculous. Why? Because advertising only goes so far. Where someone might buy a Bose system once people continue to buy apple products. Advertising doesn't appropriately explain why I have purchased no less than 5 Apple products in less than a 5 month period. Advertising doesn't account for the hoards of folks that use Mac as their windows machine. If you own a Mac you basically only need to buy win 7 and you have 2 computers in one. You buy a PC and you own one.

Obviously I lean more towards Mac mainly because after owning windows 7 for a few months i am baffled by the fact that it is basically a spit shined version of windows XP. Same exact look as xp, same functionality with definite improvements, better games etc. Yes it runs more software, but that gap closes every day.

Any way back on topic the MS store definately shows potential, but they are not going to just walk into the retail space and make a huge splash which IMO was obvious from my trip to the mall. What microsoft needs is a f*cking awesome product that people will not only want to take home with them, but actually WILL take home with them. PCs are so last century!

A refresh is nice, but Xbox by far one of the most horrifyingly unreliable POS devices in the market! As a matter if fact the only thing reliable about the xbox is its likelihood to fail.

I also work at a major engineering university, and Macs are growing like wildfire on this and many other campuses.

I also work at a major engineering university (in the Big Ten) and we are phasing out all our Macs.  The hardware just can't keep up with the modeling and computational software we use and develop.  With that said, we are starting to use Linux based OS's more.  These OS's are highly customizable and simply run better than Windows based OS's.   Also, engineering software developers support for OS X is found wanting.

I don't see PCs going away for many, many years.  I type all day long on a....PC.  I create drawings...on a PC.  I do research...on a PC.  In lifetime, I'll never use anything else for the work I do.  The PC certainly will not be replaced by the likes of the iPad.

That said, I think the iPad can make significant inroads to the home and work markets.  I just don't think it's a PC replacement.

As for Macs v. PCs, I hate to say this, as I put OS/2 (if you're old enough to know what that was) and Linux on my computers years ago and used to abhor Micro$soft, but Windows XP is very stable and Windows 7 is quite good for my purposes.  I installed Window 7 64 bit on my several years old computer with no problems and it runs outstandingly well.  At home, I have all Windows 7 computers (3 and counting).  At work, we're still one Windows XP.  I do miss some of the features of Win 7 while I'm at work.

so who cares you can get one back in two weeks and the new ones are built better. You just cant ignore the online community, its smoke everything else console. Macs are about the worse for anything gaming so wtf good are they in the real world.

Wow! I didn't know macs were so bad at gaming. I'd better quit playing Crysis warhead on all the highest settings on my giant 27" iMac screen! WTF was I thinking!  :duh: :duh: :duh: :duh:

Guess I'd better go to best buy and get a xbox so I can play it at roughly half the resolution of my mac. OH WAIT you can't run crysis on an xbox!

Actually I always get better FPS with Macs over Windows (vista 64, xp 32) with the same game and the same machine.   Games that top out at 64 FPS on XP/Vista can hit 180FPS in Mac OSX.  That's amazing, granted the selection of games for Apple is slim but almost every major studio has promised to support Mac on new titles and most of those promise same-day release for both windows and mac versions of the game.

But the nice thing about a Mac is that you can still install windows and play games.  Yes it's an extra $150 for an OEM copy of Windows and requires time to set up bootcamp, but if you are a geek, it's rather fun to do.

Also, Universities aren't the best indication of what is "useful" as they do make business decisions with the Dells, HPs and Apples to get the best deals so they can offer more and save some money.    But for engineering , it might depend on the program and even major but unix and linux has always had that locked up and if they did run Mac or Windows without access to a Linux machine, that department probably is underfunded.   In the business world, Windows is mostly purchased for Word, Excel, Powerpoint and accounting SW (exciting lol),  Macs have a huge footprint for professional video and audio and Linux/Unix is used for engineering, science and finance.

I use Windows, Mac and Linux daily and they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but Linux is the only one that I can't live without.  I would want a Mac for home, but I really don't see myself investing any more money into Windows or MS Office.

Now you see the light!

No its just that you put down the best gaming console out atm, and then started banging your chest about the mac gaming. Which everybody  who has any inkling in gaming knows that online games arent built  for macs .  Oh and using PC's online smokes Mac really hard.  So if you are going to put down XBOX (which is fine) dont telll anyone you play on mac..... dam!!!    :duh:

Why are folks so loyal to the PC?  We have all been hearded like cattle to accept the PC as mainsteam world and blindly go along where Microsoft leads us!  They talk about the great marketing job of Apple and I wonder if they have ever considered the fantastic marketing job done by Microsoft? To get people to purchase flaw products with continual updates -- think about it as as an amazing job.  If Apple produced the flawed products as has Microsoft they would be out of business.
My last comment is that it is hard to understand the amazing technology built into Apple Products if you refuse to try one!  I have no problems with folks being happy with PCs.  I still have to use a PC everyday, it works, it is a tool but my home PC is now a Mac! :thumb:

Ken

Its because pc is not locked down thats its seemingly flawed. Mac is locked down so its easier to managed, and that ironically is its major flaw.

Man I couldn't have said it better! :thumb:
As far as the car analogies go. I could build a PC or Linux based computer that would smoke any Mac on the planet for much less money. It would be like comparing a Lamborghini to a Corvette. The Corvette being a Mac.
