:o Very nice! So did you have to anchor your pictures to the wall?
I will include such details in my forthcoming review in a week or so.  I have to listen bit by bit as time allows.  I don't want to rush to conclusions.

What advantage does that have over plugging in the Ipod directly into the pre-amp?

Krell core engineering technologies populate the circuitry, including discrete, differential, Class A analog circuitry. Optically isolated from the digital circuitry, the KID topology passes signal through a custom 256-step volume control and ends in balanced and single-ended audio outputs.
The KID Dock defines what is sonically possible when using an iPod as a music source. Coupling the convenience of iPod with Krell electronics elevates iPod listening to a level audiophiles will find unexpectedly thrilling.
Bottom line..............it sounds amazing thru the KID dock compared to just plugging it into the preamp on its own.The harshness/shrill of the masive digital compressed Ipod Apple lossless is all but gone and the Ipod  sounds like a CD,but with the convience of over 45,000 songs at the touch of a button.Of course.......all this hooked up to a Bryston/Kef Reference combo helps as well :thumb:

Very Nice! :thumb: Although, it's a shame that we have to spend so much money just to make an iPod sound good.

I have yet to encounter anyone that considers an ipod playing apple lossless "Shrill and harsh"  that is simply an extreme exaggeration to justify a products existence.

are you kidding?Plug an ipod into a bryston system or any other decent Hi Fi using the ipod output with a typical red-white RCA/Patch cord directly into a preamp and listen to the Ipod...............its pure S**T..........its digital compression at its worst.

Sounds like you are describing what I hear from some Krell products, and the way some have described bryston.    I don't use patch cords myself, USB works great.  I have heard ipod direct-input demos now for a few years at several hi-fi dealers. YMMV.

How do you get over 45,000 songs in Apple Lossless format on an iPod?  They won't fit.

Because the iPod does not have a great internal DAC, using the analog line out on an iPod isn't nearly as good as taking the digital out into a good external DAC, but there is certainly no "digital compression" being performed.

The harsh "noise"  is more likely the ipod audio amp to the headset jack, not digital artifacts.  Incidentally, at a 50% compression rate (approx.)  45,000 ALAC format songs would take an ipod with roughly a 1462500  megabyte storage capacity. ( I usually get about 350mb per 60 min cd)

I can't imagine anyone who has a decent audio system or reads this forum would use the headphone output of an iPod to plug into their stereo system!  A $30 iPod dock or a $10 dock to audio connector cable would instead get you a true line level output as compared to the amplified headphone output.

Yep...agreed 100%.  Trying to make the headphone jack sound good on a hi-fi is fruitless.
