Samsung 8-series
46"
LED
It is less than 1.2 inches thick.

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UE46D8000YUXXU

It replaced my 32" CRT. Great improvement.
I am impressed of the low price of high-end TVs. Samsungs Electronics divison has 160 000 employees.
If the price competition and production volumes in high end audio where something close, high-end audio would only cost a fraction of today's pricing.

The Samsung 8000 series are great TV's, best overall consumer LCD.  Congrats!

uhm... right after Panasonic and well after Loewe...

Hey Anonamemouse, Panasonic for plasma - their VT Series - I own a VT25 58" myself but on the LCD fronts, I'd go with the Samsung considering everything, including their impressive aesthetics and feature set - plus their fancy new Qwerty remote.

Panasonic definitely has an AWESOME plasma!
But still no match for Loewe... But for a Loewe you get to open your wallet quite wide...
I own a Loewe CRT, and even though it is a few years old now it still gives a much nicer picture than the neighbors' Sony LCD tv.

Hi 1oldguy,

Make sure you use the MC position on the front panel and you should be fine.

a new house which means all my Bryston gear and PMC speakers are packed up and probably won't be unpacked till I rebuild my home theatre in another year or two

That's what I thought--just dug out my Maggies that were put away during the last move--in 1990

Two new toys for me, both complimenting each other perfectly - My new Grado PS1000's awaiting the BHA-1 -

And the ultimate HiFi accessory, a 70cm purple, not pink  lava lamp

Oh Yes, and a new phono stage, top left, Linn Uphorik, not Bryston unfortunately -

Vipers, given that vinyl rig, I have to ask, with the highest level of quality pressing vs. the highest quality digital copy, which one sounds best and how would you describe the difference in sonic performance?  Not that I want to get into any debate on this but just want to know your personal opinion.  Thanks.

For out and out sound quality I still have to give the nod to vinyl, I have the re-mastered from analogue tapes and the 24/192 version of Hotel California, obviously both sound outstanding but for me the vinyl just get's it. I find with good vinyl there is a naturalness and realism that somehow digital just doesn't quite capture if that makes sense, especially noticeable with vocals, there just seems an extra layer of richness and depth.

The trouble is that it isn't always easy finding good vinyl, and with the convienance of the BDP-1, then I find although I prefer vinyl it's the BDP-1 that gets the most use.

Just ordered my SP3 - Black 17" with blue LEDs and display to match the rest..

 :D :D :D

I was just thinking Alpha, will your SP3 be the first in the world with Blue LED's?

Not that I'm jealous, honest, I feel a green vs blue LED shootout on the horizon :)

That is a good question for James, has anyone else ordered a black SP3 with blue LEDs and display yet?

Cheers

Hi Alpha

I think this is the first one - we did build one prototype unit but it was not sold.

By the way Alpha I was keeping my eye out for you on the order and guess how it came in????? - Blue display with Green LED's :duh: - now that would be a first

Congrats!

After having sold my upgraded SP2 PRO, I just (re-)purchased a SP1.7 PRO for two channel use. I like that it is fully remote controllable through IR and RS-232 (including source switching). I needed a Bryston quality pre amplifier to drive a pair of Dynaudio active monitors and the SP's <3 are a quite good deal nowadays...  And for the bedroom/office, a Logitech Squeezebox Touch and a Samsung SACD player are just fine as source components.

I will have to wait for "my" SP3 some time longer - I have to remodel the flat that I purchased last May and as it is in a historic building, everything is a little more expensive and takes much longer than if it wasn't...

Have fun with your SP3... I sure hope to join the club one day.

Cheers!

Markus

As I said on AVForums, as much as I love the SP3, even I would struggle to love that one :?

There are some opinions that the latest 24/192 have closed the gap on standard good quality vinyl; however, 45rpm are still ahead.  Sounds like your perceptions are supported still by many.  Happy listening!
