Vinyl is king. Like you said, you have little experience. When vinyl is played back on good equipment and the turntable is set up right, and the vinyl is in good shape, the results are superb.

Ok, but my point is: are we still (not?) on the same level where the best turntables were able to reach already many years ago?  Analogue is analogue, but it appears to me that every method has it's limitations. Is today's best high resolution digital still not as good as this?

still is not equal to the real thing

The word I get from the experts is 176/24 equals the resolution of analog waveforms.

Sorry James but from a physics standpoint, a digital sample can never match an analogue waveform unless it has an infinite sampling rate.  Though that's the physical reality our human ears and sound perceptions have limits.  So as the sampling rate gets higher we pereive less of a difference beteen the digital and analogue.  In short the digital sample can get closer and closer to the analgue perfect waveform but can never exceed it.  So no digital sample will ever exceed an analogue recording in capturing reality, as the analogue captures the full waveform...not just a sampling of data points (however close together) along the wave.

That all said when you factor in distortion, noise and dynamics - there is a point where to some the digital will overall be perceived as more correct.  Better turntbles and pressings help to keep the analogue still ahead of the digital.

The best analgue rigs to my knowledge still will have the edge over the best digital but that probably won't stay that way forever.

Of course there's limitations. But, vinyl is still the full waveform, not a sample of it.

Great speakers.

We have the same nice cherry finish.

I have the Model ProAc Response 3.8.

You'll find that they need to be pointed straight ahead rather than a toed-in or the sound stage will be too narrow.

brucek

Hi Brucek, yes the cherry finish is great.
I will try the "point straight". With my Response 1SC they sound better with the toed-in but who knows.
Thanks
Pierre

PierreB,
Thats a beautiful looking speaker!  Let us know how it all comes together at home.  I looked at your 2-channel system pics.  Your listen room looks very warm and rich.

Regards.

Hi
Thanks for your compliments. Yes it's a nice speaker and they sound really great even if they only have about 10 hours on them. I like my room but it's a little bit to "live". I will need to damp it a little but it's already a great place to relaxe.

Well, I can't afford to keep up the current speed in my upgrade path, but it seems that I've just bought a second hand BP26+MPS-2 combo for a fair price.  I can't wait to not hear it!  :D

Thanks, read lots about the RS-40.I to like the RS-60.
Even when I had the HD-250 for a few months we went to a Cineplex theatre.
I was quite taken by how even the HD-250 looked way better than the commercial theatre.
I found the pict at the theatre far to grainy.I wouldn't have noticed had I not bought the 250.
Totally happy waiting for new releases on Bluray instead of spending 40-50 at the theatre, especially since the JVC's pict is soooo good :thumb:.

Upgrading from B100-SST to BP20+14B-SST combo.
Change signal path from unbalance to balance throughout entire system.
Pioneer DVD player has been replaced by OPPO 95EU.
