The best CD ripping software for Windows PCs - dbPoweramp -  is out with a new version - R14.

The license terms have changed to include perpetual meta data look up and the possibility to have a family pack allowing 1-5 non-commercial installs.

That last point is one I have long wanted in order to have the software on my home PC as well as on my laptop and lab PC.

I bought a Bryston BDA-1 and a 4BSST2. I had a 4BST running the highs and another one running the lows on Infinity IRS Epsilons. I bridged the 4BST's to run the low end which is 5-9 ohms. The mids and highs 2.8-4 ohms. Now I want either the 7 squared or the 14 seeing how they are fully balanced.

I replaced a theta dac with the BDA-1. The bryston was a hugh improvement!

So do Logitech speakers, but I choose KEF.  :icon_twisted: A matter of taste.

dbPoweramp hides all the EAC complexity, has AccurateRip, licenses to multiple meta data lookups for cover art and track data, and supports multi CODEC ripping and conversion.

All can sort of be done free, but dbPoweramp is a complete package that you can start using straight out of the download.

I posted this back in July.....

"I did finally act on the thought to put together a simple 2 channel system for the living room and just purchased a B60RSST.  It's actually the 4th B60R I have owned, having purchased one of the very first ones in the late 90's.  The B60 is one of my favorite Bryston pieces, and I have owned or currently own, pretty much everything Bryston has made since 1995 except the 14B, the 28B, and the BDA-1 - which is my next purchase since I just can't remove the BCD from my primary system."

Since then I just took ownership of a B100SST on Thursday and I am VERY impressed.  As much as I have loved the B60's I have owned, 4 in total, the B100 is in another league altogether.  As my system has evolved over the years from my very first B60 purchase back in 1997, I can't say that I have enjoyed it any more.  It was a simple system with the B60, Theta Miles CD player, and a pair of Thiel 1.5's but at the time it sounded fantastic and many hours were spent listening to it.

I moved through an SP1, SP1.7, SP2, back to an SP1.7 and then added a BP26 to the mix.  Amplification started out as 5 2B-LP's, and quickly moved through the Bryston lineup with 3B's, 4B's, 7B's, 9B's, 2BSST's (my favorites), PP60's, 120's, and 300's.  Currently that system has an SP1.7, BCD 1, 4BSST2, PP300, and a 3BSST with a Torus RM20 and RM10 feeding the power from dedicated lines.  I also have a trio of PP60's, the B60RSST, and now the B100SST.

The recent B60SST purchase, and now the B100SST, was an attempt to get back to the basics.  Listening to the B100 last night brought back what I enjoyed so much about this hobby in the first place, actually listening to the music and not analyzing every little sound.  Don't get me wrong, the B100 is capable of allowing you to hear every little detail and nuance that has been recorded, but it also has a simple purity to the sound,(and design), and such a deep and wide soundstage that you forget to listen for every little detail and just enjoy the music.

I had already decided to scale back my main multi-channel system, mostly because as my children get older they are spending more time with that system, and I don't want to ruin their enjoyment by be being so anal about the equipment and it's treatment.  They will be still be enjoying the B60 and PP60's in a simple but good sounding system, but it will be easier to use.

The B100 was to replace the B60, but now I am thinking that it may become the center piece for my 2 channel system.  It would replace what is essentially a BP25 in the SP1.7 and the 4BSST2.  I know many of you are thinking that the B100SST is a step down but if you haven't had the opportunity to listen to one, I can assure you that it is not.  I will have to begin the search for a suitable speaker that works within the power available, but I don't think that will be a problem.

Now I am thinking that the B100SST, along with the BCD, would be one very sweet sounding system.  Adding the BDP and a BDA would be digital nirvana.

A Marantz M-CR 502 for the parasite (daughter, 13, she is for sale). Now I'll have to find time to build her a pair of loudspeakers...

Is that an old Westinghouse?  I remember my grandparents had one very similar, though in black, in the guest bedroom.  Very retro chic and built like a tank :thumb:

Hello KnowTalent  :D

The fan was made by "Robbins & Myers" in Brantford, Canada.

Yes, it does weigh quite a lot - really solid and well made. I purchased it for $41.00 plus tax. It requires a little bit of work, the cord needs to be replaced and the fan speed selection switch is dirty - other than this, it works great. I am very happy with the cosmetic condition of the fan and that the previous owner did not try to paint it and make it look new - that is the fastest way to ruin something that is vintage.

I have a weakness for this kind of stuff - I want to find an early 1940’s Northern telephone to replace my current rotary dial phone and a vintage desk lamp.

Be well…

I just picked up a Bryston BP5 last night.  I have talked myself into doing a dedicated 2ch setup in a spare room (after reading some posts on Canuck Audio Mart).  I'll be using the BP5, my 4B (and a Sony XA777ES SACD player)to power a pair of Energy RC70's.....I'm hoping for an improvement over the 5.1 setup I'm currently using in the other room (a Sony ES receiver is the preamp for the 4B in that system).  Simplicity is bliss (hopefully!)?

The wife doesnt know about the new purchase just yet, though she was pissed that I informed her I had to empty that room and put a bunch of her stuff in "her" area lol!  Gotta love this hobby!

Keith, thanks for the Brad Paisley link. I hadn't heard of him before...country isn't much on my radar, but I like anything that's good, and he's very good at what he does. I might just have to pick up some of his albums.

I'm not a country fan either. The are just a couple of artists that I like, mainly from the guitar angle.

However, both my wife and I love Brad's music. Some of his older stuff is more traditional, some of his stuff in the middle years has some 'tongue-in-cheek' humor in it. He's a fabulous guitar player. I like that his albums usually have a bit of twang, they rock a bit, sometimes he'll toss in an acoustic gospel tune or may even toss a little jazz stylings in there.

However, more refreshing, he is a funny guy and seems to be very down-to-earth.

He's a cut above other county artists that for sure.
