I posted this back in July.....
"I did finally act on the thought to put together a simple 2 channel system for the living room and just purchased a B60RSST. It's actually the 4th B60R I have owned, having purchased one of the very first ones in the late 90's. The B60 is one of my favorite Bryston pieces, and I have owned or currently own, pretty much everything Bryston has made since 1995 except the 14B, the 28B, and the BDA-1 - which is my next purchase since I just can't remove the BCD from my primary system."
Since then I just took ownership of a B100SST on Thursday and I am VERY impressed. As much as I have loved the B60's I have owned, 4 in total, the B100 is in another league altogether. As my system has evolved over the years from my very first B60 purchase back in 1997, I can't say that I have enjoyed it any more. It was a simple system with the B60, Theta Miles CD player, and a pair of Thiel 1.5's but at the time it sounded fantastic and many hours were spent listening to it.
I moved through an SP1, SP1.7, SP2, back to an SP1.7 and then added a BP26 to the mix. Amplification started out as 5 2B-LP's, and quickly moved through the Bryston lineup with 3B's, 4B's, 7B's, 9B's, 2BSST's (my favorites), PP60's, 120's, and 300's. Currently that system has an SP1.7, BCD 1, 4BSST2, PP300, and a 3BSST with a Torus RM20 and RM10 feeding the power from dedicated lines. I also have a trio of PP60's, the B60RSST, and now the B100SST.
The recent B60SST purchase, and now the B100SST, was an attempt to get back to the basics. Listening to the B100 last night brought back what I enjoyed so much about this hobby in the first place, actually listening to the music and not analyzing every little sound. Don't get me wrong, the B100 is capable of allowing you to hear every little detail and nuance that has been recorded, but it also has a simple purity to the sound,(and design), and such a deep and wide soundstage that you forget to listen for every little detail and just enjoy the music.
I had already decided to scale back my main multi-channel system, mostly because as my children get older they are spending more time with that system, and I don't want to ruin their enjoyment by be being so anal about the equipment and it's treatment. They will be still be enjoying the B60 and PP60's in a simple but good sounding system, but it will be easier to use.
The B100 was to replace the B60, but now I am thinking that it may become the center piece for my 2 channel system. It would replace what is essentially a BP25 in the SP1.7 and the 4BSST2. I know many of you are thinking that the B100SST is a step down but if you haven't had the opportunity to listen to one, I can assure you that it is not. I will have to begin the search for a suitable speaker that works within the power available, but I don't think that will be a problem.
Now I am thinking that the B100SST, along with the BCD, would be one very sweet sounding system. Adding the BDP and a BDA would be digital nirvana.
