No, it was just a massive june bug slamming into me at max closing speed.
LOL. I ran into a cloud of grasshoppers once while doing about 85 riding a bike out in the prairies...felt like getting hit with rubber bullets and I had to slow down because the visor quickly became a near-solid mass of dead bugs. So I lifted the visor and the wind blew a ounce of dead bug juice in my face. Bleh.
I sold my last bike, a Honda VFR, because I seemed unable to ride as slow as I should, despite my best intentions. (Poor impulse control.) I had one accident during 7 yrs of riding...wiped out on a corner when the road surface changed camber (angle) and the tires lost grip...slid for >100 ft but not a scratch thanks to wearing top-of-the-line gear head to toe. I remember sliding and thinking: "The gear works!" But I was lucky...if I had hit a concrete barrier or even a road sign while sliding, it would have ended very differently.
I just stopped at a bike shop 1/2 hour ago on the way home (it's just up the street) and checked out the new bikes, but I doubt I'll ever buy another one. They're fun. And dangerous. And part of the fun is the danger. But I'll quit while I'm ahead. I had a great run, went on several tours -- coast to coast and back one summer -- all with no injuries, but never again. Aside from people I know who've died, I know of some who were badly injured and unable to work for long months afterward, etc. Not fun, physically nor financially.
Now I'm blowing my money on audio gear rather than motorcycle gear, and audio is a cheaper hobby so far...so far....
Also, I took scuba lessons this summer, which is definitely a rush, yet statistically far, far safer than motorcycling. And there's a ton of cool gear to buy...ooh, shiny!
