More used AVA equipment post on our web site.
« on: 10 Jun 2010, 10:58 pm »
Just to let you know that we just posted several additional used AVA pieces on our web site:

http://www.avahifi.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=125&Itemid=176

Included are a really nice original Super Pas preamp build for Dan Kolton year and years ago ($300) and a very nice Super Pas 4i hybrid preamp at $395.

Check them all out before they are gone.

Best regards,

Frank Van Alstine

Hi Frank. I'll give you a call later today (Fri. 6/11) and make arrangements for that Omega III 440HC 200 watt per channel power amplifier in excellent condition. I'm stuck in a meeting until this afternoon. It will go well with the Avastar pre I picked up last month. If you want to start the process - I'm the guy from WestSt. Paul and I should be on file.

Question:

AVA Super Pas 4i hybrid preamplifier.  $395

Upgradeable to awesome modern performance for $300 extra.

What exactly does the upgrade entail? I'm not familiar with Super Pas, but does this take it from 1st generation up to Ultra+ or AVAStar hybrid preamp level?

The upgrade to the Super Pas 4i changes the current buffers (which in the original unit were AD845 op-amps wired for unity gain operation) through three generations of dedicated current buffers to our present day choices which have less than .00003% THD and a slew rate of over 2000V/µS and a quarter amp current drive.  To say that this makes a day and night musical improvement is an understatement.  The project requires removing the mother board, changing the current buffers, and also changing some support passive parts for each of the four sections to make they work properly.

It still is not an Ultra+ because there is no room for multiple regulated power supplies or the hotter running 6CG7 tubes, but it becomes an absolutely great sounding preamp in its own right.

Highly recommended.

I keep seeing this upgrade is for $300, but I got charged for $400, is this a typo?

Nope, not a typo, our catalog price for this is $399.  We are offering this special price ONLY on this used unit to help make it more attractive to a potential buyer.  Used equipment sales have been slower than normal this year.
