PC Line Input & Icon uDac
« on: 2 Jun 2010, 12:43 am »
New to the whole audiophile thing, and am having a little trouble on the software side of things. My current setup/s

PC > uDac > AD-700 / Logitech THX 2.1 (RCA)
360/PS3 connected through HDMI > Samsung P2770HD > Astro Mixamp (Toslink) > AD-700

The problem is, I cannot use my mic inputs or line inputs on my PC while using the uDac. Using an integrated Realtek HD soundcard. In both the RT software and the windows volume control, the line/mic volumes are greyed out. Was wondering if anyone else had this problem and/or had a possible fix?

Also, would it benefit me at all running the monitor output to the PC, and using the uDac output with my speakers, or just using a 3.5mm splitter, and running it directly to the speakers?

X360/PS3 > Monitor > PC > uDac > Speakers
or
X360/PS3 > Monitor > Speakers
                  PC > uDac ^^

Pretty sure I could avoid all this hassle with a few hardware upgrades, but the pocketbook is a little light, and looking for a fix for the time being.

You can only have one Playback device (output) and one Recording device (input) active at one time.  If you go into Control Panel > Sound, you should see that your uDAC USB is set as the default device for Playback.

You should be able to go to the Recording tab and set the Realtek as the default device for Recording.

Have that set, the problem I think is in the way the Realtek card works. It works fine if I set both playback/recording defaults to Realtek, but once I switch the playback to uDac, it no longer accepts any recording inputs.
