'The 5th Element' is pretty sweet on my little 37" LCD. I'd imagine it would be outstanding on a real home theater. Would also second 'Cars'.

congrats & enjoy !

+1 on Star Trek.  Story line weak, but the color saturation and picture was so
good, I watched it a second time last week on my blu-ray.
Going to watch the Baraka disc this weekend.

George,

I hope you don't mind me getting off topic but what made you pick the Epson over the Panasonic? Did you consider the new LG projector? What did you do with your old Panasonic projector?

I still haven't bought a new projector but it's only a matter of time. Congatulations.

This should always be your first. Also a very nice projector :thumb:.

Pete,

Until I get some hours on the pj, I am going to use settings from either projectcentral or projectorreviews as my starting point.

While I do own DVE on Blu-ray, ultimately, I will have this pj professionally calibrated.

Hopefully I am just a few hours from the initial viewing...still haven't decided on my selection.

What about "The Big Lebowski"?

Oh, that's right.  It is only available on HD-DvD.
What??? This will not stand, man.
Remember, whatever you decide, the dude abides.
Love the movie lines used in the discussion on the wait for the blu-ray version:

Getting it calibrated later on is the way to go, As far as first movie I would go with the opening scene of Star Trek and Avatar (night scene w/wolfs). Make sure to use that new camera when it comes in .

Ok, I am not watching full movies, just clips right now.

Here is the order for the first three:

1.  The Fifth Element (opening space scene, taxi chase, diva)
2.  Sea Biscuit (final race)
3.  Star Trek (opening scene)

Avatar is probably next.

Using even the default settings, the pic quality is far superior to to my 4 year old 720p Panny.   :duh:

Will take pics tomorrow or Monday.  Ran into a few placement issues as I didn't fully appreciate how much bigger the Epson 8500UB is than the Panny AR-900.

I recently purchased 2012 to test my new 4B SST2, and it sounds great. It has some nice visual effects too. I like apocolyptic movies, even though they've been beat to death. Children of Men is a great movie, in my opionion. Have fun with the new toy. Congratulations!

Currently watching David Gilmour - Live at the Royal Albert Hall on Blu-ray.
Must say, it's quite stunning, and darn good music to boot!  :eyebrows:
