Another great musician has left the stage...

Ronnie James Dio passed away last night, after fighting cancer.

Most people will only know his voice as the singing frog in "Love is all". He had a long career leading bands like Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio. He will be missed. Rest in peace Ronnie.

Drummer for Twisted Sister

Sad times indeed

Audio Fidelity is doing a remaster for Holy Diver.
I am thinking of buying it. What is holding me back is "Mastered by Steve Hoffman".
I am *SO* not impressed with what this guy does...

His work seems to be pretty divisive. I like Steve's masters more often than not, for two reasons. First, he goes back to the multitracks when possible, which is far more often than all other mastering peeps / labels with a cult following. Second, he's very much about letting the master tape do the talking. He'll compensate for outright damage, but for the most part, he's pretty hands off. At least he understands the lack of need for an RIAA curve to be left in for a format he's not mastering for.

Kinda true. I know that Mobile Fidelity is not the company it used to be, sometimes even reissuing already remastered recordings (Megadeth).
It's only $19, so I guess it'll show up in my collection...

A big +1. MoFi used to be a Trademark of Quality. Now, they just trade on their reputation.
