A poll probably would've done the deal.

1-get chicks

2-rock star

3-studio work

4-live sound

5-tag along or other sort of drug and alcohol supplying person a.k.a band manager / assistant

Played keyboards in a part-time college band back in the late 70's early 80's. Mostly prog related, so there was a lot of glamor for the keyboardist. It would have been nice to see what the big life was like back then, but I don't that I would have appreciated super-stardome and arena sized gigs. In any case, I might not have lived through it. I certainly wasn't mature enough to treat it as a profession and not just as one big party. Not sure I really am now.

Thanks, Noseyears!

I couldn't resist the opportunity to have some fun here (thus, the pix and my first response) but I honestly would've LOVED to be a professional musician.

I play(ed) a few instruments (although, I haven't touched any of them for countless years now) from grade school through my mid to late 20's and had a lot of fun.  Made a few bucks here and there, but really never accomplished anything on a notable level.  I was far from great (not even close) but I did my share of giggin' and enjoying myself, while forming some great friendships along the way.  I do have to admit that I have to second BobM's comments about really making it big... maybe not something that everybody could be mature enough to handle well, let alone live through it...??? :o I'm sure I wouldn't be married to my wonderful wife for the almost 24 years we're together if I was out rockin' & partying all of those years!

Maybe in my next life!?

I've always had a fantasized of being a lead singer/guitarist of a rock band, use to dream about it when I was a teenager. Just a memory nowadays but I envy those like Lonewolf who have actually lived the dream.  :thumb:

Much less glamourous or on the edge than  most of you guys, but I'd be thrilled to work for a small company like Bottlehead where I could design, build, tinker and tweak the days away to sell really cool kits to folks to build their own, affordable gear that sound great as well.

Circuits, woodwork, metal work, etc. I really love working with my hands, and even more so if I can listen to great music with what I build.

Well, you asked :D.

Vault work & archiving. If it was for one of the majors, I could spend the rest of my life working my way through the Blue Note, Columbia, RCA, or Verve catalogs.

Otherwise, The Grateful Dead or Frank Zappa.

I love the premise of this thread.  Lots of fun.  For me, it would be a toss-up between:

An outrageously sexy rock star cavorting around the stage in his tight pants, driving his fans into a frenzy.  A young Mick Jagger comes to mind.  Fascinating that he seemed to have this effect on both his female and male fans.

                                                     OR

An excellent, well-respected speaker designer with his own successful company.  I would make reasonably priced speakers with outrageously good performance.  Jim Salk comes to mind.

So who will it be  - Mick Jagger or Jim Salk?

Got to go.   You know, that appointment with my therapist.

Manfred Eicher already has it.  The force behind the ECM label.
