What should I look for at the local fabric store to cover the compressed fiberglass panels I'm building?

Can you breath through it without feeling the moisture from your breathe come back on you?

A little stretch to it helps working with it but some polyesters can be dense and not pass the first test.  Burlap is nice acoustically but does not stretch like polyester does of course.

(And as a side note as someone will surely start blah blahing about flammability and the need for GOM, etc.; I have yet to have any piece of polyester go up in flames when I tried to light it on fire.  All it did was smoke a little but would not burn.  So the fumes would be the issue versus sweeping flames.  Burlap may burn however.  But, you can purchase a gallon of clear spray-on fireproof liquid for about $35/gallon if it helps you sleep better at night.  I never used the gallon I purchased for the HT which had extensive covering on the front 1/3 of the room.  For 2 channel, only select panels in the room so most folks don't seem to sweat that square footage.)

That helps.  Thanks.  I'm off to the store.

Muslin is another inexpensive option though your color choices may be limited.

Most of the online references to compressed fibreglass have US product names. What's it known as in the UK?

You can get fabric at places like:
http://www.atsacoustics.com/cat--Fabric--107.html

If their zip bags fit your panels this is a reasonable and easy way to go:
http://www.readyacoustics.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=26_11_2

To install the above you just need cardboard to place on the panels to pull the bags over and then once in place you pull the cardboard out

Phil-Thanks for the link!!!- I was so in need of an inexpensive option for room treatments...its definitely something I could pull off now, got any other great places or like a "start with ____".
Is hanging some acoustic panels like pictures a good place to start or is bass trapping or corners best first?? I think I just need a list, get this first, get that second etc..any thoughts??
 Thanks

This is probably the wrong thread for above question-oops

In most rooms, broadband bass control is the thing that's needed most.  Corners tend to be a very efficient place to put them as they're at the end of multiple room dimensions.

The next thing to address is reflections on the side walls - especially if you're out of symmetry left to right in front of your seating position.  Without knowing the room size, shape, setup, it's hard to say what and how much would be required.  If you can post a pic or 2 or a rough sketch of the room, that would help a lot.

Thanks Bryan--I draped a comforter over my flat pannel, and some blankets over some CD racks I had and placed them in 2 corners and I'm quite amazed at the sound...I'll figure out how to sketch something out and post it. Oh and I am definitely out of symmetry!! :thumb:

My bedroom...its like 18 ft. along wall with dresser and 12 ft. deep. I'm not into moving stuff around, too old, too tired..if I was starting over I'd put TV and stuff in front of windows but right now the way its setup doesn't sound bad so lets start with what we got here. The gopher next to GORT sings caddyshack song.."I'm alright.." very cool...LOL :thumb: :thumb:

If this should be moved, feel free, was here so posted

The first place I would address would be the corner behind the flat screen.  That cavity back there is going to have a lot of resonances and allow all of them to be amplified by what is effectively a horn formed by the 2 walls.

Bryan-I'm gonna use (temporary) one of the CD racks I have covered in a blanket and sit it on some adjustable quik-lok speaker stands I have and sit it back there, should I take it all the way to the top/corner? I'm assuming yes and I'm off to make it so.  :thumb:

The CD rack really won't do much in terms of daming the resonances back there.  It's a hard surface that will scatter some but not at the lower frequencies.  If you want to try something without spending a lot, go to Home Depot and get some bales of insulation or even the bales of the blown in stuff.  Leave it in the wrappers and stack it up in the corners - at least to the top of the flat screen.  If you like it and want to do something yourself, you can just return the bales.

Bryan,

What about the Elite Pillar or Tri Tap.  The tri tap is really inexpensive to the point of not diy'ing.  No?

GIK Elite Bass Pilars.  They're awesome!!!

I didn't realize this thread was still active.  Pardon me for highjacking it back.  Here are photos of the acoustic panels I built.

No need to apologize about jumping in on to the thread.  I just wanted to drop back in to "show & tell'.  I posted the photos under my profile at audioevo.org.  If the link doesn't work then I'll repost them directly to AC later.
