Digital output audio from iPod

Do NuForce have any intention to make a product to get the digital output audio from an iPod?

Hey Casey...

If I'm not mistaken, I think you may have missed the real question that was being asked. The poster (and I for that matter), wanted to know if Nuforce is/will be exploring the notion of gaining access to the digital data stream of an ipod/ipad, before the internal DAC. Such a device would have to connect to the ipod/ipads main connector and negotiate with the Apple firmware to convince it that it should be sent the digtal data steam. From there, Nuforce would be able to work your special magic, fully leveraging your unique skills with very high quality (yet affordable) DACs and headphone-drive electronics. That would indeed be sweet. I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Several companies have already managed to get the digital stream, including Wadia, Manely and several other high-end manufactures. In effect, it means total Nuforce audio quality, totally on the road. Can Nuforce do it too... please, please, please?

All The Best!

I think you are asking if they plan to make something like the Wadia iTransport

Exactly Skunark.
Something like Wadia, Onkyo and Denon already did.
But with the quality/price in the Nuforce tradition.
Unfortunately, I think Casey's comment means a clear "No".
And that is a pity because I think a lot of people are interested in such a device.
I have a 2nd house and what I want to do is to carry the iPod, connect it to the hi-fi system there and listen to music. Right now I have a dock station that gets the analogic output of the iPod but the sound is not satisfying, at least to me.
Cheers.

Perhaps along this line, the uDAC can support Apple's iPAD and provides an S/PDIF output via the new USB Camera Adapter ($29).  However, this function is only applicable on iPAD, but not iPhone or iPOD.

So far, we understand that the supported file is limited to 48kHz or below.

What I don't understand is that if you are in your home, your music will be on the Mac. You have a cheaper solution.
Apple Airport Express cost $99 with a digital output and you can use a $200 iPod Touch to remotely control your Mac or PC for streaming.
Why bother with an expensive iPod dock that also give you digital output?

May be a few people want the convenient of just carrying the iPod to the dock. We can't see how we can sell the digital output dock by the thousands to justify the lower price and R&D effort.

I have no Mac and even if I did have one, I wouldn't want to carry it - or a PC - with me.
Really, I just want to bring the iPod - classic, 60GB - in my pocket.
Of course it's up to NuForce to decide what to produce, can't be every single piece of electronics now existing in the market.
Anyway, I understood it the first time and ordered an Onkyo ND-S1 (150€).
Thanks.

Hi Everyone,

The would-be product that I was originally writing about is mainly for portable use. My wish is for Nuforce to consider producing a product that...

  -  Gains the rights to securing a fully Digital output from a iphone/ipod
  -  Includes a high quality Nuforce DAC
  -  Includes a high quality Nuforce earphone/headphone driver
  -  Uses a rechargeable battery/charger
  -  Is contained in a single, "relatively small" case
  -  Thereby making it the perfect choice for someone what wants the full Nuforce sound on the road/airplane.

Thank for listening!

I would keep the Onkyo and still buy such Nuforce piece of equipment.
Dreaming is for free.

It would be a nice add-on to any DAC that may come out in the future but it's not really that urgent because products like the Onkyo are so cheap.  Nuforce is a small company and I'd prefer to see them focussed on products noone else can make.
