Excuse my ignorance and possible thread hijack but I am moving to southwest Florida and will be requiring good surge protection.

I currently have a PS Audio Duet.  What is MOV and why do you want to avoid it?  Are the Zero Surge type units that much better?  What about the Belkin PureAV PF-60?  What about battery back-up units?

Just tell me to go away and I'll start my own thread.

An MOV is a metal oxide varistor. This is what you typically find in all the cheap power strips. However, pro companies use them as well, like Monster, Furman, Belkin, APC, etc. After taking some surges, MOVs can wear out and fail.
