Surge Protector and Power Filter Question
« on: 5 May 2010, 06:38 pm »
I'm looking for an inexpensive unit that uses SurgeX's series mode technology (no MOVs). Here's what I need:

- 6, or 8 outlets.
- Outlets hospital grade.
- Plug hospital grade.
- Series mode surge protection.
- $200 or less.
- 15 amps.
- Basic power filtering.
- Isolated outlets.

I've already looked at SurgeX, Zero Surge (Brickwall), and Torus (seriously overpriced). Anything out there that's priced cheap, maybe even a DIY kit?

Why not do your own?   :o

With your knowledge anything is possible...and it will be the BEST!

It certainly would, but just don't have the time for it right now and want something on the cheap.

Can't really say I know of anything for that cost that will actually do anything.

Goldmund!

Goldmund makes the very best electronics in the world, IMO.

The Goldmund Sweeter is a sophisticated AC Line Conditioner providing 2 AC power outlets (max 60W each) separately isolated and filtered. Dimensions 15cm (W) x 5cm (H) x 25cm

   It's probably a $4000 power strip

 :duh:

I don't know why I didn't think of these...I have one under my desk and in my closet.  These are right in your price range as well.

Zerosurge has several models that fit your description.  Pick the one with your required amperage.  Their business products may be cheaper for you if you call them.  I called and got a wall sub-panel unit for a fair price.

BTW, with you being a commercial entity, it would be professionally courteous not to comment on the list price of products, e.g., Torus, offered by other vendors who have circles here.

Very interesting stuff.  I need to look more into it.

Yeah, thanks for that.  They have a 20 amp model I might pick up.

I already had Zero Surge and SurgeX listed in my first post. I just wanted to see if there was anything else out there that was similar... Why are all of you recommending me something that I already had on the list?

The Goldmund unit is actually very good, maybe even the best there is. I've used it before. However, it's an isolation transformer, not a surge suppressor. And what I OBVIOUSLY (see my first posts) need is surge suppressing capability. Some of you try to be funny I see...

Probably because your requirements are unreasonable at the price you've requested, other than what has been recommended.

I've been reading up on the zero surge.  Is it true that SurgeX has sold an agreement to zero surge so they can use the technology?

I recommended something different.  Thank you.

Just so you know, it goes sticky side down.

jtwrace - Yes, it's true. Zero Surge, Brickwall (which is identical to Zero Surge), and Torus all use SurgeX's technology.

I would recommend that you stick with the very best electronics in the world, IMO.  Plus, the synergy with the rest of your electronics, best in the world, should over shadow any silly surge suppressing capability you may require.  Just my ignorant point of view.

Hmm.  I do like how Zero Suge has vertical units.  That's nice.  I wonder if there are any internal differences.
