BEL 1001's as monoblocks.  Unfortunately they are no longer available, but a steal on the used market at about $1-2k each depending on version.

Second scp2's choice in terms of what I have owned.

After owning several integrated amps in the 60's & 70's (Pioneer; Sansui; Kenwood), I moved into separates with a Bruston 4B in the 80's. I've also owned a Musical Fidelity A-5 and auditioned Classe and Parasound JC-1's and my favorite SS amp is the one I own and use now--the Modwright KWA-150.

Power: 150W @ 8ohms; 250W @ 4 ohms; 450W @ 8 ohms bridged mono; 650W @ 4 ohms bridged mono. ALL power ratings at .05% THD!
Noise Floor: -100dB (Unweighted)
Bandwidth: 10Hz - 100Khz (+0, -1dB)

I have found this amp to do a great job of combining the strengths of SS and tubes in a SS amp. Great bass slam and control with exceptional midrange and soundstage. Totally non-fatiguing.

In my system (used in following order and I consider each an upgrade over the prior amp):

  • McCormack DNA-500 (one of the classic used bargains!)
  • ModWright KWA-150s as monoblocks
  • Pass Labs XA-100.5 monoblocks

(Granted, I haven't heard that many amps in my system.  I would still like to hear the BAT and Clayton amps at some point).

I would recommend the Butler Audio TDB 2250.  A tube/SS hybrid, it simply sounds terrific with every speaker I connected it to.

Rod Elliot P3A amp (DIY). It hammered down 7-10 of my other commercial amps (price range $1k to 5k). (sorry can't name them).

My favorite bang for the buck amp is the Yamaha M-85.

I also really like the Nakamichi PA-7.

My favorite ss amp was my old Clayton S40.  Wish I had never sold that beauty.  But being an Audiophile means we must put up with regret.   :duh: Nothing is better than pure Class A power.  Damn my inefficient speakers that I love just as well.

Then that explains why I couldn't find it...I never would've guessed you like an amp from the 80's / 90's.

The best gear was made in the 80s none of this ICE garbage.
Jeff Rowland Model 9 still today great amps
