Mother's Day Brunch.

Are you looking to do something special for this Mother's Day?  Don't forget, for those of you with little kids, it's also your Wife's Day too.  Tired of taking them out to a crowed restaurant for brunch?  Well, throw a brunch of your own and make it special.  Try a spring fresh fruit and cheese platter with a bottle of Brachetto d'Acqui that is perfect with strawberries and a Moscato d'Asti that is heavenly with mellons.  For the Maine course,  grilled lobster tail with green curry mango sauce  and grilled mango and tomalley on the side should be just about right.  You can pop a Brut Champagne here.  A hearty Stilton cheese and a Port from down under would cap a very nice brunch.  The best part of this brunch is how inexpensive these wines are.  Hardy's Whiskers Blake Tawny Port sells for under $15 and, yet, drinks very nicely -- Wine Spectator rated it 94 one year.  The Italian sparklers are also very affordable (under $20) compared to your similar tasting demi sec Champagnes.  I challenge you to find a demi sec rose champagne for under $50!  You can't.  A nice, inexpensive Brut bubbly is Ste. Michelle Columbia Valley Sparkling Wine that goes for under $15.

Happy Mother's Day!  And enjoy yourself too.

Someday.  Actually, with luck this will have been my last ever Mother's Day in a kitchen...we'll see.  By this time next year I'll hopefully be doing something IT related.

No doubt about that. All my years in the kitchen have been extremely helpful in life.
