I was completely shocked at that pick, as I'm sure just about everyone else was. The pick was a total waste, as evidenced by Carolina getting Claussen and Cleveland getting McCoy in later rounds.  :duh:
I have never seen pro caliber QB play from Tebow.
Claussen is the guy who will have the first success imo. Bradford will have to wait for the team to get better. Apparently McCoy is going to sit this year according to Holmgren.

Yes, I think your comment is ill informed.  Elway was perhaps a top ten, definitely not top 5 quarterback.  Marino, Montana, Unitas, Manning, Brady, Staubach, Young, Namath, Starr, Fouts, Archie Manning.

The thing about Elway is that you have to look at the cast of charaters he had to play with for most of his career.  Until Terrell Davis showed up, their running game was practically nil -- which meant Elway had to practically carry the entire team and hope the defense did not blow leads.  I firmly believe that if John had someone like Terrell earlier in his career, his Super Bowl history might indeed be very different.  Except for maybe Bradshaw, you put any of those above named QBs in Denver during the same years that Elway played there -- well, I don't think many of them would have had nearly as good a career as John did.

Not a John Elway fan...the Broncos had a great OL which is why Davis looked so good.  It's also why a bunch of nobodies went on to look like fantastic runners after Davis retired.

I'll agree that Davis could not have done it without the guys doing a great job up front.  The Broncs did have pretty good OL during Elway's career.  He just did not have a running back the caliber of Davis to help keep the D honest and spread things out a bit for Elway, Sharpe, Rod Smith, and McCaffrey.

Anyway, this is supposed to be about Denver picking Tebow, and on that subject, it's probably a long shot that he will work out -- but please, please, make it so!

I actually wouldn't hang your head too low about Tebow.  Yeah, I think he could have been had 10 spots later, but all the analysts were way off about Clausen and McCoy, so who knows.  His combine numbers are absolutely insane...he's not Vick-fast, but he'll be able to do some special things at the position.  You know how Roethlisberger is mobile as hell in the pocket?  Tebow has got to be harder to get down, and if you give WR's just a little more time to make a play develop, they'll get open every time.  Plus it sounds like he'll work really hard.

Doesn't matter if you can't pass accurately and read pro defenses.

BTW, let's wait and see how elusive and tough Tebow will be in the NFL.  Lots of guys look great in college and lost in the pro's.

The odds of any QB being good in the NFL are pretty poor.  For every one great QB selection (Tom Brady as an example...late pick, very successful even if he is overrated), there are 10+ bad QB selections.  Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning were both extremely well thought of coming out of college...one has been amazing, the other a disaster.  So with that said, there's no way to really judge the Tebow pick right now with any amount of accuracy.  If the current success rate of QBs is 10% and Tebow has an 8% chance, will we ever know the difference?

I see that Tebow's #15 jersey is the top seller in April.

Ever?  Sure.  Immediately, probably not.  I lived in Denver for Elway's first 4 years and he had a pretty rough start.  I remember he couldn't wait to get out of Dodge, er, Denver at the end of the first season.  In the end, things worked out pretty well for him and Denver and the fans.  I'm not ready to pronounce judgment as some are in this thread.

Having said that, the fact the LT Ryan Clady had surgery just a few days ago is not a good sign.

Leaf?  Yikes. I lived in San Diego during his miserable career there. Talk about everything that could go wrong doing so...

Guess who was number 2?
