That's the kind of finish used in $100k speakers !!
Wow, amazing how you make any colour look good on the N3's.

100K and $1900 speakers. :thumb:

Thanks for the compliment!

Ruben

Why pay the fleabay fees?  couldn't you do something similar right here?

I actually never considered asking Danny about holding an auction here.  eBay has the system in place and offers buyer protection, so it seemed like the best route to take.

how about an audiogon auction?

I remember Sean suggesting Audiogon when we talked about this idea a few months ago, but I never looked into it.

I'll definitly check it out later tonight!

Thanks,

Ruben

$510 Ruben! If thats for a complete N3 build that I was going to spend much more for anyway, sure, I can always laminate them later if I want! P.M. me, Jim

Sorry! Never mind, I need the port on the fronts!

Hey Jim,

Sorry for the confusion. I was actually just playing around when I posted $510. It was in response to dvenardos post.

What I'm trying to figure out is if there is any interest in the idea of an auction on a pair of complete N3's.

Very nice Ruben...Do you have a permit to carry that gun

Thanks! It shoots like a dream. The company that makes these is located about 20 min from my house. I was able to visit the manufacturing facility when I bought it.

I think that is confusing because those speakers are worth ~$3k.  List at $2-$2.5k and be patient...

The auction is intended to be a bit of fun. If someone scoops these up for an absolute steal, then good for them! :thumb:

BTW, How did you come up with a value of 3k?

For the Blackberry finish - $510 for sure.

Actually, though I would be inclined to bid, I recently emptied my audio piggybank on re-capping my amp, so I'm out.

So, you'd likely participate if the piggy was full, correct?

Thanks,

Ruben

My take on how to get to 3k.

Go look at 6Moons and find a speaker that plays a solid 40khz note, is 91+ db efficient and doesn't drop lower than what 7ohms.  A speaker so friendly that any amp over 30w will rock most peoples little man caves. Lol

Now add in cabinets that are nothing short of one of a kind artwork "As of this moment". And I think it is very resonable.

Naturally value is determined at the moment a willing buyer and seller exchange funds,,, but you guys get my drift.

I arrived at the AV3 Neo deepcupless Neo3 because how well it will play with my 50w tube amp.

Who knows maybe 3k is too high but under 2k is too low.
Just my 2cents... Worth maybe 1cent. Hahahaha

I'm also convinced that most the exotic cone materials and use of many multiple drivers is to look cool and give the marketing guys something to write about.

Ohhh man, I knew it was to good to be true! I was just checking my P.M.s at work via my I-phone and wasn't following except for the too good to be true starting bid!

Looks like I won't be holding an N3 auction after all.

The N3's I was considering putting on the auction block belong to my wife now!  :thumb:

Here are some pics of some different base designs I was playing with. They're being modeled by Black Metallic N3's.

The paint job on the bases was just to get an idea of how they'd look painted. They are not polished and have gobs of over-spray on them.

Hey Ruben,

I like #2 better.  The key to the base should be to ensure against easy toppling from an accidental side jar.  You may want to add an extra matte piece like your LS6 & 9 bases....it gives the illusion that the speaker is floating.  You may want to look at manufacturing wood outriggers too.

+1 on the floating bases.  I've always liked that look.  Also, I've seen a number of companies use anodized aluminum feet/outriggers instead of bases and I've always found that look attractive.

Looks like the OVO bases aren't as cool as I thought!

Hey Ruben,

What's up Lou! :D

I like #2 better.  The key to the base should be to ensure against easy toppling from an accidental side jar.

Thanks.

What I did to make sure that I wasn't taking away from the stability provided by Danny's original bases was ensure that the widest points would be at least the same if not wider. If you were to lay the original bases on top you'd see that they support at least as well as the originals. The "uncool" OVO base is actually quite a bit wider.

You may want to add an extra matte piece like your LS6 & 9 bases....it gives the illusion that the speaker is floating.

It's hard to see in the pictures, but the second base actually does have a 1/2" reveal between the base and enclosure. With the OVO base the enclosure is inset into the base by 1/2" and sits off the ground by 1/2".

You may want to look at manufacturing wood outriggers too.

I've got some adjustable outriggers planned! :thumb:

BTW, I've got some stuff I'd like to go over with you. Will you be around this weekend?

Thanks,

Ruben

I've always found that look attractive.

Same here.

I like that they aren't as bulky.
