I could care less if some people hear the buzz at 6", or 12", or 10 feet. The fact is that nearly ALL plasmas buzz and that's unacceptable! A high end TV costing over a grand should be dead silent. No fan noise, no buzzing noise, nothing. The only virtually quiet TVs that I've heard are the LED LCD type.

This buzz comes from super cheap power supplies and garbage conventional fluorescent lamps.

Now this might be important to some (like me), or not at all to others. But it should be taken into consideration and if someone is getting ready to make a purchase, they should be informed of this type of a potential problem.

I don't hear any buzzing on my 4 month old Panny plasma from any distance.

My father bought the same unit 2 months ago, have not heard his buzz either.

My brother bought an LCD this year, and is happy with that too.

There are a ton of excellent displays in the OP's price range and size, and truthfully I think it would be tough to make a bad choice in that landscape.

I am very happy with my plasma.

I went over my friend's this weekend and watched his plasma (50 inches?) and never heard any buzzing from a few feet away.

I've owned two plasmas, an Element 42" and a Panasonic 54S1 and never heard a buzzing. I wouldn't want a LCD/LED myself, the colors don't pop as much to me and they are much cheaper for the same amount of screen real estate.

I saw a nice Samsung super slim 40" the other day at Sam's Club at around $1250. Latest version, apparently. It was just what I've been looking for, but I still didn't have the nerve to pull the trigger. It's just a TV, after all. Something comparable in audio, I wouldn't have batted an eye.

Dan Driscoll - So what if that particular camera was co-developed by Cameron for Avatar? Many similar cameras have been around for a while and they do virtually the same thing. Furthermore, Cameron/Pace/Sony's 3D Fusion camera has been used for many other movies besides Avatar (Final Destination, Aliens of the Deep, Hannah Montana, U2, Jonas Brothers, etc., etc., etc.).

Yep, my info was wrong, that camera or versions of it have been used on other films.

In December of last year I bought a Panasonic TC-P50G10 plasma. It's the cheapest of 3 models that use their best display. The V10 is about $800 more for better adjustment/calibration versatility. I paid $1255 with free shipping. How can you beat near state of the art 50 inch plasma for that price? Check Amazon before you buy. They sure treated me well. No buzz.
