I'm in a Jazz kind of mood.
Dave Brubeck Quartet - Live at Newport 1958.
Import CD from Japan. My Dad had the original on Columbia vinyl. Nice imaging. Brubeck on piano on the left, Desmond on Alto on the right and Joe Benjamin (bass) and Joe Morello (drums) in the center.
Next was:
Oscar Peterson Trio - Swingin' Brass with the Oscar Peterson Trio
Late 1959 recording with the Russell Garcia big band.
The difference in the recordings are startling. On the Brubeck recording, the piano sounds awful. It's out of tune and not particularly well recorded.
On the OP disk, it's vintage Oscar. Stunning detail and clarity. Great job by the Russ Garcia big band.
Next was Frank Sinatra - "The Concert Sinatra". Great rendition of Ol' Man River.
