My Salk's came in!
« on: 6 Apr 2010, 11:06 pm »
Well, after much anticipation, my Salks have come in.

Obligatory FedEx pic...

Big boxes...

After much unpacking...

The side shot really highlights the curl in the cherry. The speakers are actually a bit more red than seen in the photos - the color is just what I was hoping for and the finish is beautiful. Now to muscle these around and start listening  :green:

Oh and for those who are purchasing in the future, this is how I handled installing the plinths (no help for this bachelor). I started doing them with the speakers on their backs  - it was easier to see when you had it lined up.

Right now it's a 5.1 setup, but I decided to get 7 speakers for when I move to a bigger place and can do 7.1. Figured I might as well have them all done at the same time so the veneers and colors match. For now, either the songtowers or surrounds will go into the bedroom.

As far as the sound - so far so good. Just trying to work out positioning (which I suck at  :( )Right now it's trial and error as I don't have any of the music "recommended" for setup. It's a bit tough in an apartment. Needless to say, right now the speakers dominate the living room  :green:

For 2 channel, Parasound 2100 fed by a Rotel CD player into a D-Sonics Magnum 1000S. For the home theater, I'm using my old Yamaha RX-V 2700, with preouts going to another D-Sonics.

Great speakers .. but pardon me for asking (maybe i'm just jealous) - songtowers for surround is a bit of an overkill, no?

polarbare, just curious as to what type of music is recommended? Is there a particular CD they recommend?

Speaker placement?  He needs a book on structural support principles, or at the very least, an understanding of how to handle a critical mass of Salk particles.  ; )
