Dan...just coming back to this thread also....again great links, didn't understand very much of the info except the test regarding hifi cables.
I did a super basic and totally unscientific comparison with some Audio Cables and HDMI cables I have, especially notable for me was the difference between a $1.50 HDMI cable and two other HDMI cables, one was $45 the other $69-both major player name brands. We couldn't see or hear any discernable difference at all, none, zilch. As a matter of fact the $69 cable has since failed totally(completely intermittent) and the $1.50 cable is still going strong.

How about "burn in" or "break in?"  That's always a topic that generates a lot of buzz, albeit negative at times.  Here is a link to said topic that has been discussed over at AVS forum.  Sean Olive even participates, although doesn't really give an opinion on that topic.

in fact, i still do own a mesa baron.  are you intimating its looks have anything to do w/it?  in fact, i sold a pair of manley mahi's, which the baron replaced.  the mahi's are real eye-candy, imo!     actually, i do think the baron is a nice looking amp, but when in use, it really reminds me more of a wintage monster s/s amp, w/its meters and all - you don't see the tubes.   for real eye candy, these are easily my most purdy amps, imo:



but, presently, neither is in use.  tho, the mesa is serving as a support base, with a wood shelf on its top,  for the amps i am using - an almarro a205a mkll w/upgraded caps driving my oris horns, and a tiny black box rawson gainclone driving the bass-bins.  (electrocompaniet aw75dmb's drive the subwoofers...)
