D-500 balanced or unbalanced ?
« on: 20 Mar 2010, 04:11 pm »
Hello Dusty,

I have a question about the D500.

What is the best way to connect the D500's, the use of the balanced or the unbalanced input ?  I am playing with a Mcintosch MCD-301, which have both connections.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

kind regards,

Marco

Why not just try it both ways, and trust your ears?

There is no best way... as gme suggested, try both methods and see what you like best.
Balanced has the benefit of better noise rejection at the expense of double the circuitry.

Ok, thanks Dusty. I will try both methods.

But I thought the best way also depends of the internal design. If the amp is build fully balanced then probably the best way is to drive it balanced, if not then the other way is the best method I think.

Can you tell me what kind of design the D-500's are ?

D-500's are true balanced from input to output.
