Wow, this is a very unique approach, I have not seen anything like this before - I have seen folks using minimal baffles, I have seen magnet mounting, but the sand filled spine approach is very cool!
Very cool and refined looking job for a "first draft", have you considered using a hard dense compound of some sort around the magnets between the mounts. Maybe some resonant resistive strips to help grip the magnets if they are vibrating loose, as they will.
Awesome project! Running the Augies without a baffle sounds a bit optimistic though. They'll start rolling off pretty high, so you'll need some kind og compensation. Digital EQ would be the easiest solution I guess. Although a baffle would be the best solution in my opinion. Do you know the T/S parameters for the Bastanis driver? Removing it's baffle could reduce bass response. So perhaps you need to reevaluate the crossover frequency for the Augies.Measurements would be really interresting.
