TomS, those look great!  I like the bamboo w/ the black top & bottom, gives them a little extra distinction. And the looks without grilles is cool. The front-firing, back-firing speakers w/ no-rez & black cabinets gives it depth & interest. Kind of like a "black hole" look.  :thumb:

OK, my cat decided to curl up in there on top of the no-rez this morning.  A quick crank of the opening percussion of "Fanfare for the Common Man" took care of her nap  :thumb:

Nice looking setup, I like it a lot.

I have played around with OB and sealed, and ported subs - no doubt that for pure output the ported are the way to go (as in my HT), but for music, I like the OB sound - I need more drivers and a larger amp (to compete with the HT sub), but I like the quality of the OB bass.

She wasn't too bothered.  She wandered over and plunked down on my lap and went back to sleep for few tunes.  Dead to the world so not too many nightmares there.

Yep - OF1400, TS55, CT22.  I'd really like one of the sanders too, but I seriously exceeded my limit.  So now I just need some lessons in how to use them   I made two more mitered plate amp boxes and they were a joke next to your walnut one

Tom,

 :notworthy:

Very, very nice.

My balanced cables from Signal cable are arriving this week so I can optimize the DCX2496 with my XJ12 subs.

I will send you some measurements off line with the before & after DCX use. Let me know how you are implementing the 'servo' part with the DCX or if you are not.

Anand.

I'm running balanced cables from the preamp right to the M60's, then a Y to each plate amp, stereo for now, no DCX summing to mono or tuning used at all.  As someone suggested, I toe'd the subs in at the same 45 degrees under the speaker and they seem to work just fine that way.  I haven't had time to measure anything yet as I'm still working on the amp boxes, soldering Speakons, and buttoning everything up in general.  I'm using the servos as is since the amps already have proper shelving and XO for these boxes.  They sound great without doing a thing so far, but I definitely want to supplement with the sealed servo sub at some point.

Really cool looking project Tom.  You have a really interesting system.

Having heard the Summa speakers at Dr. Geddes home I know the Abbey speakers sound incredible.

Look forward to hearing about your results and some more photos.

I am jealous of the Festool stuff also.   :thumb:

I quite agree. If they are designed with servo in mind, then use the servo! With a well treated room (like yours), you may not have much need for a parametric EQ.

Tom those subs look great.

The CT22 and TS55 were my first Festool purchases.  Trust me, get the MFT3, I know it seems expensive for what it is but it is really great.

OK, the amp boxes are done w/bamboo, umbilicals wired up, Speakons all installed, DCX in the bass loop, added the sealed servo back in.  3 subs, 5 servo drivers total and it's all very, very good.  Can you say serious 2 channel bass  :o  Still lots of tuning to do, but I'm inclined to just sit and enjoy.  As it turns out, the height doesn't really seem to be an issue.

Really nice work Danny and Brian and thanks for all your help.  The H-frame works really well and these do, in fact, complement Earl's speakers very nicely.

Tom, congrats.  They look great and I'm sure sound even better.  Some questions from a fellow Abbey owner!...

What about any vibration/resonance issues with the Abbey's sitting right on top of the subs?  Where do you have your OB subs crossed over?  Are you going to experiment with asymmetrically locating the new OB subs and driving them all from the DCX?  Where do you have the Abbey's crossing relative to your listening position to get optimal sound quality?

Again, congrats. Room looks great too.

I use those rubber/cork iso-blocks between the speakers and subs.

Can  you tell what's different (sounding) between the sealed sub and the OB subs?
