I have the Torus CS 15 in black and it looks very good in my system.  I'm not sure I can hear the difference personally, but I'll take the word of the experts that it makes a difference to the sound.

Enjoy yours...

I have one in black that improves all components with the exception of the amps. They prefer to be left alone.

Good luck with yours.

I spoke to two recording engineers each with over 30 years experience, an installer and 'voicing expert' with over 30 years experience, and many others at the recent APNOXA audio show in Jacksonville, Florida on the VALUE of power conditioners.  Our audio equipment contains it's own power regulation.

Every expert said that there is 'little to no' improved sonic performance to be gained using a power conditioner.

There strongest recommendation is dedicated 20A or greater power lines, installing improved electrical power outlets in existing 15A outlets, and using very reasonable cost cabling and interconnects, such as that Bryston offers.

Many recommended the PS Audio Juice Bar if greater outlets are required; This is strictly bus bars and high end electrical outlets.

This is an emotional topic that few can agree.  But I put my faith in the experts who have been doing it more than me.

In conclusion, take your thousands you'd spend on power conditioners, expensive cabling and save up for that Bryston 28B-SST, DAC, SP3, etc.

Cheers, JohnnyB

Hi Volks,

I have the CS 15 in silver too.  It makes a bigger difference than it does in black, so good choice.  Kidding aside I was startled at the difference it made in my system when I installed it on Christmas Eve.  Imaging and soundstaging, clarity of complex passages (e.g.high volume orchestral) among other things improved.  Initially I just plugged everything in.  Subsequently I discovered that I had the new transfomer and capcitors in my 7B2's and discussion arose on here that they were possibly redundant with the Torus so I experimented with the amps in and out of the Torus and discovered that the difference was less noticeable with the amps than it was with the BP26 and my CD player.  After the experimenting I concluded that the Torus has a bigger effect on the source and pre than it does on the amps but that I liked the overall improvement with the amps in vs. out.  Plus you get the sophisticated surge protection for the amps.  There may be a bigger difference that you would hear if the amps do not have the new transformer .

Some have a tendency to lump all power conditioners together when assessing their efficacy or lack thereof.  The big question is are they current limiting?  The Torus units by virtue of their design around a toroidal transformer will not limit current.  In fact the CS 15 they will make anywhere for 50-300 amps available for peak requirements for various portions of a wave.

So, good choice, if your experience is like mine you will be happy with the CS15.

Regards,

Bill

Volks, how do you like the KEFs?  I've always had a soft spot for KEF ever since I owned a pair of Ref 103/3s about 20 years ago.

Also, from the pics, seems like you need to tweak the speaker positioning a bit.  Move away from the side walls some and they don't seem to be symmetrically placed...

Yes your correct Jaxwired......i still have to tweak the speaker position and pull them out from the walls more, but i got so excited once i placed all the gear on the stand and fired up a CD.I just snapped a few pics, before tweaking and positioning the speakers  :green: .As for the Kef`s ....i love them. They are a warm speaker with a very open midrange that is never bright or harsh to my ears and the bass on the XQ40s is so clean-fast.A Warm Dynamic speaker........I will be looking at the Reference  Kef 207-2s at the end of the year or early next year.

Volks, don't get 207s they're way too big.  They're monsters and they need a giant room to work well (like 20 x 30).  Look at the 203s.  Sometimes more is less.

I settled on the 205's for the same reasons as mentioned above.  The 207 is almost double the footprint of the 205 and they are a big speaker.  I audtioned them all when I bought my 205's and I found the 207 just too big and over the top and I found the 203 too small.  The 203's didn't have the presence that the 205's have and the bottom end wasn't there.  The 6" drivers couldn't compete with the 8" drivers in the 205's, so that's why I settled on the 205's.

I like the Torus products a lot.  Great choice.

Looks like you have a dedicated listening room.  Speaker placement is more important than any of the gear you have and as already mentioned you need to work on that by the looks of it.  If your room is indeed dedicated, you also should have room treatment.  At least get some corner bass traps, if not some panels for the first reflection points too.  Treatment along with ideal speaker placement will make all that really nice equipment sound like it was worth what it cost.  It will make that Torus sound like its doing what its supposed to do, cleaning up the AC that ends up being in the signal path.

I don't think James has any portable bass corner bass traps that you can take home, but maybe be does.  I'd also consider looking at products from GIK.  I live in Calgary and have GIK and Real Traps products that I had shipped in and it's easy to do and affordable and simply the best thing I ever did for my system.  Your system and room looks ideal for this next step.  As I mentioned, even just some stacked GIK corner bass traps would be really beneficial, and probably cost you less than any of your components excluding that ipod.

You also might want to try moving that rack over to the side wall.  Stuff between the speakers, including something as simple as a rack, does impact acoustics.  You can put the rack on a side wall near the listening position and leave the amp between the speakers on a floor amp stand.
